The
2005 Rookie of the Year is Lynn Gothard
of Franklin, Tennessee. She is a new member
of the I.F., in the Nashville Racing Pigeon
Club. Early on in the young bird season,
her loft was damaged and birds lost due
to a tornado, but she refused to give up
on a sport she loves. With help of Steve
Jones and other members she was able to
have two beginner lofts assembled and she
was once again participating in the sport
she loves. She also credits NRPC president
Jim Pancake, members Gary Norris and Jerry
Myatt with getting going with the racing
birds. She also had lots of help from Steve
Joneli and Dennis Weinreich, pigeon flyers
on the West Coast that put up with her through
the worst parts.
The
Nashville Racing Pigeon Club states that
they were very glad to accept Lynn into
their club. Lynn expressed great enthusiasm
in raising and racing pigeons. She has shown
the members there in the last young bird
series her dedication, discipline and desire
to win. She has also shown them that she
is a good sportsman and gets along well
with other flyers in their club. Lynn has
a good attitude and positive approach to
racing and to this sport. Her dedication
in learning this sport has impressed all
members of the club. Her discipline in applying
what she has learned has had an impact on
her race results and has really paid off.
Her desire to do her best on her behalf
has also impressed members in the Nashville
Racing Pigeon Club. She has a genuine interest
in this sport and then there are her birds.
She had selected her young bird team from
other flyers across the country and some
locally, as well as raising some of her
own. She is proud of them and what they
have done. Their records this season were
as follows:
Seven
first place wins, Five second place wins,
Four third place wins and four fourth place
wins. Also was Champion Young Bird (B series),
Champion Loft and Champion Average speed
(A and B Series), in the first year of flying
2005. She finished the year with 25 of the
birds from 45 originals even with the loft
disaster she experienced. She also won both
of the 300 mile Races. This is truly a testimony
of how hard she and her birds have worked.
A truly remarkable season for a rookie.
Members
of her club are all proud of Lynn and glad
that she is a member of their club. She
is an example of what a true pigeon flyer
should be. The veteran members of the club
could not recall anyone ever winning this
many races, champion bird awards, champion
loft awards and average speed awards as
a rookie in the first year as a flyer in
this club.
Members
quoted, ”People like Lynn help make
this sport what it should be; fun and enjoyable”.
