The Irish National Flying Club had their first race of the 2013 season when the birds were liberated in Skibbereen on Tuesday 28 May. With rain forecast to spread from the west as the day went on, the birds were released at 7.40am in a westerly wind. The overall winner was Ger Furlong from Wexford North and South, with the six highest velocities in the race going to Wexford but it was the North section that provided a nail biting finish with the first five birds all on the same yard with P & J Boal just edging out J Gregory & Son and Doonan & McGuinness. The middle section winner was Tom Nelson from Malahide & District.
