At the weekend we had a double bill of racing, the Premier YB Nat was flown from Talbenny in South Wales and we had a comeback race from Tullamore in County Offaly. The Tullamore birds were away first at 9.00am in calm conditions and a West NW wind en-route, winning birds made good time in this one. It was a bit different with the Talbenny Nat convoy, they were released at 10.15am in a Fresh NW wind which was the dreaded head-wind. It took its toll and while a number of local lofts scored well in the difficult conditions other were not as fortunate. Many birds were still missing when the clocks were checked around tea time. The big early local bird in Tullamore was timed by George McDowell in Kells & Dist giving him his first win with the young birds and well set for a good finish. His Blue hen recorded velocity 1580 for the 120 odd miles to finish 5th Section B 88/1690. Kells & District also had the best bird from Talbenny, Jeff Surgenor who had already won the MAC twice in the young birds timed at 15.36hrs to record velocity 1188 for the 217 miles. He finished 1st MAC, 1st Sect B and a good 8th Open NIPA 508/3585. Danny Dixon on velocity 1177 was next best, yet again winner in the Coleraine Centre.
