L & SECC Success for Khan Bros

Post by Administrator »

LONDON AND SOUTH EAST CLASSIC CLUB

The 1150 birds were liberated at 05-45 from Bergerac and straight away we must congratulate the Convoyer from the CSCFC,and the weather man Steve Appleby it must go down as one of the best races from Bergerac for many years. Yes some fanciers had a bad one like me with only one home on the day but the result shows that a lot of birds homed on the day. I appologise for this report being a week late, I have had a few family problems which have been sorted, so I did not get down to the report until I had sorted them, family must come first. Taking top place was Mr Romanscan from Worcester Park flying 452mls and recording 1233ypm this a yearling cock and saitting a week old youngsterand is a Vandenabeele bred from Enrique from the Safron Lines and the mother is a direct daughter from Jester. This bird did not race as a young bird only had a few tosses, then it has had three sprint races this year and was 1st twice, then it went to the NFC Alecon and Messac races also the SMT Tours race then into Bergerac it was being prepared for the NFC Saints but it hatched its egg so to Bergerac and it did the trick. This bird will be either driving or just on eggs and it will go to the NFC Saints. He has two half brothers to this bird which one was 8th NFC Alecon 5,957 birds, the other half brother in 2008 was 10th sec 69th open NFC Saints 5315 birds, 95sec 176 open NFC Alcon 7186 birds then in the Bergerac it was first home last year but could not get his clock to the station. His loft is 8ft x6ft he flies 14 widowhood cocks not the hens, he feeds three different widowhood mixes and then adds to them to make his own mix, he breeds about thirty young birds. He would like to thank Frank Tasker for all his help and advice also Lenny for helping with his loft.

In second place were the Khan Bros of New Malden only just behind on 1230ypm this a cock bird which won the Fed from Kingsdown has had two channel races and was sitting ten to twelve day old eggs. The Sire was purchased from Anton Bros from Holland he is Aviator line and the Dam is Kooperman which was loaned from Les Green from Manchester.Third place goes to Bob Beasent of Worcester Park flying 453 miles doing 1228ypm, this is a yearling blue chequer cock bred by Page Bros of Yorkshire it was sent sitting seven day old eggs and is from the Gladiator line it was second open and second section from Guernsey as a young bird. His loft is about 26ft long has 45 roundabout hens and cocks, he breeds about sixty young birds, and feeds Gerry Plus, he is also in the BICC and NFC and his favourite training ground is Hayling Island.

First SE Section is P Jackson & Son from Bromley doing 1141ypm this bird is now called Hillcrest Lady, who is bred down from a dirct son of their own Golden Eye Cock responsible for many federation winners, the Dam being an ace breeder for them, a blue white flight hen a granddaughter of the Donkeron 018 Jan Hybregts foundation pigeons she is also Dam to their Champion 45 seven times First Federation and countless 1st and 2nd prizes. Hillcrest Lady flew consistent as a young bird flying all the young bird program including Guernsey. Last year she she was lightly raced across the water, she scored twice inland in North East Wind winning First Club 10th open Surrey Federation Seaton, and 2nd club beaten by loft mate 10th open Surrey Fed Seaton so she sprints as well. This year she has been trained and raced in the midweek club her best position 1st club 6th open Surrey Federation 11th open SMT Combine 2351 birds competing, this is one to look out for.

1st NW Section is Stewart Sheffield of Old Windsor on 1141ypm This a dark chequer hen bred from Frank Shearer and is a Kipp Pigeon its next race is to be from Bordeaux if it has laid in time.

Now the bad news since I have typed this up I have just heard that the First bird has been DISQUALIFIED under RACING RULE 13.2. So the Khan Bros win the race.I have left my report in tact as the bird deserves the mention.

The next race will be from Guernsey Young Birds and also Old Hens The young birds was won by my old mate The Chitty Bros and the Old Hens by J.Armitage.

Convoyers report.

July 7th: Salisbury. As birds were loaded they were lightly fed. The London and South East CC arrived with their birds to transfer in to our crates and they were also fed and watered on loading. Wanted to remain at Salisbury until 8pm but gate was closing at 7.20pm so we had to leave for Portsmouth Docks.

July 8th: Arrived in Caen at 6am. Stayed and watered all the birds on dockside. Left at 7.30am. Driver drove for 4 hours and then stopped in a service area. Watered the birds again stayed for 1hr 15mins. Proceeded on for 3 hours where we stopped to fed and water all the birds, stayed there for 3 hours. At 6.45pm we left for race point. Arrived outside gates at 10pm. Parked up for the night with water on for the birds.

July 9th: Gates opened and went straight for water to top up tanks. Lorry then levelled on site, generator off and all doors opened. Watered birds left to rest till 2pm.Water drained off and refreshed then fed all the birds. Spoke to Roy Ferriman and Steve Appleby early evening to discuss the race for Friday.

July 10th: Roy Ferriman telephoned 4.50am and at 5am Steve Appleby telephoned. Flight all clear decided to liberate the CSCFC at 5.15am and the LSECC at 5.45am. Thanks to Roy and Steve for all their help.

Hope you all had a good race.

Weather Report

The weather on Friday over France for the race from Bergerac was fine with varying amounts of cloud and sunny intervals all along the flight path north to the channel. At first light the conditions at Bergerac were very good and liberations took place as soon as it was possible, day light permitting. No wind was reported at Bergerac but a light north westerly air flow prevailed all day across France before changing to westerly over northern France. Most of the channel remained clear all day but some areas to the west of the Cherbourg Peninsula were affected by some patchy rain during late afternoon which had arrived from the West Country. This development was not forecast and is a typical example of how the weather is a law unto itself. Winds over the channel came from the west south west during the afternoon averaging speed of 15 mph and gave some lift to pigeons as they left France for the English south coast. At dawn on Saturday full cloud cover carrying patchy rain affected northern France and the channel making conditions difficult for second day pigeons leaving France to cross the channel. This being the same reason why some organisations held over in France. Once again the northerly element in the wind over France on Friday slowed the pigeons up making this a steady race.

Steve Appleby.
