To all NIPA members ref Skibbereen inland OB Nat. I am informed that there are a lot of posts on social media regarding the cost of Skibbereen National. I will do my utmost to explain everything in detail, Skibbereen National is a self-supporting race which means it has to pay all race expenses and provide all prizemoney. The cost per bird to cover this is £3 in the Open and £2 in your section, you do not have to enter your birds in the section and if it is timed early in the race you would receive nothing from your section ie prize or pool monies. The prize allocation in this race passed by the members is 1 prize per every 15 birds entered, if there for example were 450 birds entered in your section it generates a prize fund of £900. divided over 30 pigeons however, if it was reduced to £1 it would only generate £450 again divided over 30 birds. The total amount of entries in your sections is paid out in full there are no deductions. The entries for this race over the years have fallen from 8000- 9000 to less than half of that total today this is mainly due to your 20-bird limit per member introduced quite a few years ago. it is obvious that the larger the entry the more income it produces would absorb expenses much easier leaving a good amount for prizemoney. The membership requires 1 prize per 15 birds entered ie if we had 4500 birds entered this means 300 open prizes should we receive 6000 birds it would mean 400 prizes. The cost per bird in the open this year is £3.00 half of this amount is taken up in expenses, such as wages diesel, and any other legitimate expense, this leaves £1.50 to generate all prizemoney in the Open. If we received 3000 in the open we would be paying out £4500.00 in prizemoney. The NIPA is not profiting from the £5.00 entry fee with as much as possible paid out to the prizewinners. This approximately works out that from your £5.00 entry fees £3.50 is paid out.

PILMORE BEACH - You should be aware that last year we cancelled this race as it looked like we would be over-subscribed with entries, however, we have taken steps this year to obtain extra space to liberate, and we are confident that room can be made for a 4th Transporter, anything more than this will give us problems however we will find a solution.

2nd Fermoy - Last week’s race from 2nd Fermoy I posted last Friday on our website that we would run into problems with the collections 2 drivers pulled out on Friday morning 1 was very ill the other had difficulties in arranging his duties. At 2 pm on Friday, we were still 2 drivers short we could not find suitable replacements in the end Paul our transport manager found replacements. However, only 1 could do the full trip and the other could only do the collection which meant a transporter had to be taken off. I’d like to thank everyone that assisted, apologise to everyone that found their collections later than normal, I would request that all clubs be ready on time for their collection. Some of the extremes we found were clubs that usually sent 7- 8 crates sending that week 28 to Fermoy. Other clubs that had high numbers of entries required crates from the transporter on arrival at their clubs this took time and added to our difficulties. It was 2.30 am on Saturday morning before we set off to the race point, my sincere apologies to the Newry clubs for the very long wait, but on the plus side did anyone expect an entry of 26000?

Results - We have been hearing of complaints regarding the result that is published on the night of the race that it has been wrong 2 weeks on the trot, all results are always provisional and subject to correction, yes we have made mistakes but lots of clubs are also making mistakes which can affect the result. Please read over your result before submitting it as we receive them with duplicate ring numbers, and wrong velocities ie too high or too low! and ring numbers missed out. we will endeavour to do better as we are only in our first season compiling the result we would also ask clubs to do likewise. Thanking you for your future assistance.
