The opening race of the old bird season was flown from Tullamore in Co Offaly on Saturday 9th April, the NIPA birds were released at 12.30pm in a SE wind. Returns were good enough but a lot of birds came back, the best positions and velocities were recorded in the top end of the country. What a start it was for the re-formed Foyle Valley Combine consisting of all members of the clubs in Derry City and Strabane. They had a result to remember with local lofts filling a lot of the top places in the NIPA and that included the 1st Open winner Danny Farrell of Strabane doing velocity 1831. We also had Anthony McCrudden having three birds placed in the first race for the newly formed Derry & District, Sean Gallagher & Son (Londonderry) and Dermot Friel (Maiden City) had two birds each.
