Flying into the NW - Talbenny (2) 08/06/13

Post by willie reynolds »

There are two races again this week to get through, or three depending on how you look at things. We have the second race from Talbenny, and we have the yearling cocks and hen’s nationals, which were all raced on the same day. The yearling national races took place from Roscarberry. By all reports, especially up here in the North West, all races were poor enough, with returns and velocities yet again, well down. Conditions this week did seem to be more favourable than we had last week, although easterly winds, and hot conditions will hammer many birds, especially those who do not drink on the transporters.

At the time of writing the report, I have only so far received Talbenny results from most clubs, as the national race was a centre race. If I get ant results regarding the national races from the clubs, I will put together a report to cover these

Once again, it’s off to Omagh to start our report, where we have our Section winner Kenny Armstrong. Kenny has been flying well all year, and has been knocking at the door most weeks in the results. So a very well done to Kenny, who has the only bird to get over the 1,300 ypm mark this week. Kenny’s winning pigeon was a Hartog, just for anyone who might like to know what the winners are coming from. Second club this week is Alan Hall, whose hen is the same hen that won the section from Talbenny last week. This week she takes second Section, a super channel pigeon. Alan also takes third and fifth, with Kenny in again for fourth. The full result for the Omagh club then looks like this, 1st, 4th and 6th Kenny Armstrong 1355, 1191, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th Alan Hall 1293, 1234, 1152, 7th R Adams, 9th A Henry, 10th A Kelly.

Up to Limavady next, where Ronnie Witherow does an amazing treble, winning all three races. Ronnie in fact takes first from Talbenny, the first three in the yearling hens national, and the first two in the yearling cocks national. What a weekend that turned out to be, and result that will be very hard to equal in the future. The results for Limavady looked like this, from Talbenny, 1st R Witherow 1212, 2nd J Mc Cool 1184, 3rd and 5th H Crawford 1161, 1153, 4th and 10th W Mc Ilmoyle 1092, 6th J Crawford, 7th and 8th D Johnston, 9th J Kerr.

From the yearlings Nationals in Limavady, the hens result was 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th R Witherow 1162, 1131, 1094, 4th W Mc Ilmoyle 1092, 5th J Mc Cool 1085. The cock’s race had Ronnie with the first two, and the only ones in the result, doing 1131 and 1127. Great flying again by Ronnie.

Up in Strabane this week, Tony Conway continues his domination in the club, taking not just first and second, but six of the first nine positions as well. Another great weeks racing yet again from Tony. The full result then for Strabane looked like this, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th Tony Conway 1156, 1061, 1013, 989, 3rd T Mc Ateer 1050, 7th H Mc Nulty, 8th T Mc Bride.

Up in the Derry clubs this week, all the old hands show the rest the way home. In the Maiden City club this week, it’s the Donegal lofts that lead the way. The Buncrana loft of Tony Morrison takes first and fifth, and considering where Buncrana is, this is an outstanding fly for Tony. Close on his heels, was Steve O Dea, another man flying into Donegal. Steve’s loft I believe is near Bunbeg, an achievement in itself just to get birds back to such a location. Well done to the Donegal men this week. The result for the Maiden City was, 1st and 5th T Morrison 1140, 1010, 2nd and 9th S O Dea 1136, 3rd and 8th B Ogilvie 1098, 4th and 7th s Morrison 1056, 6th P Mc Laughlin.

Another old hand Cathal Fox takes a long awaited and overdue first in the Amelia Earhart this week. In second this week, we have Robert Cassidy, with son Niall in third. Sean Campbell and Micky Mc Closkey make up the top five. The result looks like this 1st C Fox 1130, 2nd R Cassidy 1072, 3rd N Cassidy 1059, 4th S Campbell 970, 5th and 6th M Mc Closkey 758.

The old hands showed the rest the way home as I said earlier, and the same is true in the Derry and District this week, where Joe Ebbs takes a very good win. Jim and Gary Ramsey are in the frame again in second, with Maxi Chism a fraction behind in third. The result for the Derry and District looked like this then, 1st and 6th J Ebbs 1177, 2nd and 9th J+G Ramsey 1158, 3rd M+C Chism 1158, 4th B+K Reid 1137, 5th A Mc Crudden 1031, 7th and 10th S Barker, 8th S Healy.

Over in the Londonderry club this week Billy Houston takes a very well deserved win, and is well out in front of the chasing pack. The full result was 1st B Houston 1088, 2nd and 3rd J+D Kelly 804, 784, 4th T Cassidy 779, 5th N Murray 755, 6th D Kelly, 7th P Breslin.

The first five positions in the City Of Derry Fed were as follows, 1st R O Reilly 1276, 2nd J Ebbs 1177, 3rd J+G Ramsey 1158, 4th M+C Chism 1158, 5th J Campbell 1152.
Well done again to our Section winner Kenny Armstrong, and to all the club winners in what turned out to be a very hard weekends racing.

Just got a quick update from Micky Moran on the National races in the Fed. The top five in the cocks were 1st D Kelly 1112, 2nd N Murray 1099, 3rd B+K Reid 1073, 4th L+B Flanagan 1038, 5th Concannon Bros 1018.
In the Hens, 1st N Murray 1100, 2nd L+B Flanagan 1030, 3rd D Simpson 1003, 4th P Maxwell Jnr 991, 5th L+B Flanagan 898.
