For the second week the local Mid Antrim birds were released with Coleraine, last week from Navan it was Coleraine who topped the result, this time the best birds are in Rasharkin & District. Liberation was in Mullingar at 10.00am in a helping Lt South Easterly wind and the leading birds took just over two hours. Danny Dixon from Dunloy timed the best bird doing velocity 1480 followed by W & J McLean. Next best McAlonan Bros who race to Glaryford had the best bird in Ballymena, their Blue hen is the best Lambrechts from Danny Dixon. The Ballymena & District Chairman timed a single bird into his T3 clock at 12.07hrs to record velocity 1474 for the 106 miles. Young McManus & Sons had 1st, 2nd & 3rd in Ahoghill Flying Club (1463), Trevor Johnston & Son who race to the Doury Road had 1st Harryville HPS (1452) and Stewart Bros were 1st Randalstown (1449).

Antrim Area Update – The Antrim birds at the weekend were in Mullingar with the rest of the NIPA Sect B plus Coleraine, Danny Dixon from Dunloy had the best bird in the second Area Liberation doing velocity 1480. Stewart Bros from the Grange had 1st Club Randalstown (1449), Mrs Moira Smyth had 1st Club Kells & District (1415) and Thompson Bros had a good 1st & 2nd in Crumlin & District (1405). Next week we have a mass liberation in Tullamore.

Coleraine & Ballymoney Update – Last week from Navan the Coleraine Area enjoyed a great result and had the best overall velocity with novice racer Jason Capmbell of the Coleraine Premier having the best bird in the Area Liberation. The same lofts were involved again at the weekend from Mullingar, all of the NIPA Sect B lofts and Coleraine. Best birds this time were in Rasharkin and Ballymoney, Danny Dixon from Dunloy had the early bird, he races in both Ballymoney and Rasharkin & Dist and had 1st MAC and 1st Open NIPA. Next best is W & J McClean from Rasharkin who had won in the old bird and in both events when the loft had an early arrival they were well placed in both MAC and NIPA. They were followed by the best birds in the Coleraine Premier, race winner J L Madden topped Coleraine Triangle followed by T & J McDonald, Diamond Bros with two birds and Russell McAlary who is having a great season. T Stewart had 1st Windsor Social (1457) and Donny Dysart broke Novice Status in the Coleraine & County Derry (1441).

The Coleraine based North Coast Classic, the One Loft Race that has been going for a few years are looking forward to another good season of Hot Spot races. Birds are being trained most days depending on the weather conditions, the first Hot Spot planned for Sunday had to be cancelled due to the weather and it is hoped to have the race this week, possibly Tuesday from Monaghan (70 miles). A Hot Spot event is due each Sunday, 4th August Tullamore (115 miles), 11th August Roscrea (150 miles), 18th August Thurles (175 miles), 25th August Clonmel (196 miles), 1st September Roscrea (150 miles), North Coast Classic Final on Sunday 8th September from Rosscarbery in County Cork (265 miles). In the East Down Combine it was the same race-point Navan, and the same winner of 1st Open, the high flying loft of Jim Young & Partners doing velocity 1621. John Abernethy was next best 2nd and 3rd followed by C & D Smyth & Sons who had 1st Ballylesson. Sam Regan of Ballywalter had the top three places in the East Sect and Gordon Bros & Sons had the Card of the Day.
