Flying into the NW - Roscrea 10/08/13

Post by willie reynolds »

The birds are starting to push on now, with this week’s race from Roscrea, a distance of around 140 miles to most fanciers in the North West. The race itself turned out to be a bit of a tight one compared to last week, with velocities and returns well down. The birds were up earlier than a lot of fanciers might have expected, and the birds surely must have run in to the bad weather on their way home, resulting in the low velocities and the losses that many experienced.

We must start this week in Limavady, where Willie Mc lmoyle gets that elusive win at last. Willie has been knocking on the door week in and week out, and at last gets his just reward, with not only a win in the club, but a Section topper as well. Very well done to Willie, whose perseverance has really paid off. The full result for the Limavady club looked like this then, 1st and 5th W Mc Ilmoyle 1482, 1369, 2nd D Mc Cool 1433, 3rd and 4th R Witherow 1395, 1390, 6th J Mc Cool, 7th G Mc Ivor, 8th J Kerr.

Next, we go up to the Omagh club, where Kenny Armstrong cleans up again this week. Kenny not only takes the win, bit has three more in the top six. Alan Hall is in there again in second, with James Taggart in third. The result for the Omagh club was, 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th K Armstrong 1359, 1277, 1244, 1243, 2nd A Hall 1353, 3rd J Taggart 1299.

In the Strabane club this week, Declan Mc Nulty gets his red card at last. Another man who is always in the result, Declan is well out in front, and will be over the moon with his win. Glenn Quinn is back on the road again, and gets in for second and third. The full result for the Strabane club then looks like this, 1st D Mc Nulty 1333, 2nd and 3rd G Quinn 1160, 1113, 4th and 5th D Mullen 1108, 1016, and 6th J Gamble 1013. (11 members sent 181).

Down in the Derry clubs this week, we will start with the Londonderry club, where, as predicted, that man Flanagan takes another first and second this week, and will be very hard to stop as the season goes on. Billy Houston is consistent as ever taking third. The result then for the Londonderry club looked like this, 1st and 2nd L Flanagan 1311, 1199, 3rd B Houston 1196, 4th N Murray 1178, 5th J+D Kelly 1160, 6th B Freeman, 7th D Simpson, 8th D Kelly. (8 members sent 98).

Down in the Maiden City club this week, we have a change at the top, with the ever popular Frankie Ramsey taking a well deserved first place. Frankie is well ahead of the chasing pack, with the Roy and Gary Martin making up the top six. The result looked like this, 1st F Ramsey 1300, 2nd and 6th T Morrison 1209, 1054, 3rd and 4th P Mc Laughlin 1181, 1082. (14 members sent 173).

Last but not least this week, we go the Amelia Earhart club, where here also, we have a new name in first spot. Sean Campbell gets a really well deserved win at last and will be really over the moon, knocking King Andy off his throne. Sean works hard for the members, getting the results and photos to me every week. The full result then looked like this, 1st S Campbell 1270, 2nd and 10th J Quigley 1269, 3rd K Mc Cafferty 1229, 4th, 5th and 6th G Ferguson 1192, 1134, 7th and 8th A Mitchell, 9th C Fox.

Well done again to all our winners, and to everyone who took a position. And congratulations again to our Section winner, Willie Mc Ilmoyle.
