Talbenny & Tullamore - 31/08/13

Post by willie reynolds »

This week we have two races to cover, the Young Bird National from Talbenny, and the comeback race from Tullamore. The main race of the weekend, the Talbenny National, saw only twenty eight birds going from the centre, a much reduced number, and a sign of the kind of season it has been for everyone. Only one game young bird made it back to Derry on the day, with Jim and Gary Ramsey clocking at 7.45 pm, to record a velocity of 746, to win both the Derry and District club, and the City of Derry Federation. Well done to Jim and Gary on a great fly, on a very hard day.

On to the Tullamore race, where we will start up in the Limavady club, where it looks like Ronnie Witherow has claimed yet another Section win. Ronnie has a super race this week, taking four of the top five positions. The only man preventing the clean sweep this week is Robbie Mc Ilmoyle, who gets in to take a very close third place. The full result for the Limavady club looks like this then, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th R Witherow 1262, 1254, 1253 and 1253, 3rd, 6th and 8th R Mc Ilmoyle 1254, 7th J Kerr, 9th D Mc Cool, 10th W Mc Ilmoyle, 11th J Mc Cool.

Over in the Derry and District club this week, Paul Hegarty gets another win. Paul is having a very good season, having just returned to the sport after a number a years. Sean Duffy is in the frame again in second, with the National winners Jim and Gary Ramsey making up the top three. The full result then for the Derry and District looked like this, 1st P Hegarty 1229, 2nd S Duffy 1216, 3rd J+G Ramsey 1215, 4th and 10th B+K Reid 1187, 5th, 6th and 8th A Mc Crudden 1148, 7th and 9th D Canning. Down in the Maiden City club this week, it’s as you were, with Martin Healy making it two from two this week. Pat Mc Laughlin is hitting some form at last, with second, third and fifth, while Roy and Gary Martin get in the frame for fifth spot. The full result looked like this, 1st P+M Healy 1187, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th, P Mc Laughlin 1152, 1109, 1081, 5th R+G Martin 1081, 7th, 8th and 9th Coyle Bros, 10th Concannon Bros.
Down in the Amelia Earhart this week, it’s the tail of the two Quigley’s. Jimmy and Eamon clean up, taking the top six positions. This week, Jimmy takes the honours, with first, fifth and six positions, while Eamon has to settle for second, third and fourth. The result looked like this, 1st, 5th and 6th J Quigley 1176 and 1045, 2nd, 3rd and 4th E Quigley 1157, 1093 and 1051.

Over in the Londonderry club, the Flanagan roller coaster keeps on rolling, with Leo taking another first. Billy Houston climbs back up the table this week to take a good second and fifth, while Leo is in again, to take third and fourth spots to add to his win. The full result for the Londonderry club looked like this then, 1st, 3rd and 4th L Flanagan 1146, 1054 and 1052, 2nd and 5th B Houston 1105 and 1036, 6th J+D Kelly. (5 members sent 36).

Well done again to Jim and Gary Ramsey, who have the only day bird from Talbenny, which is all I have at the time of writing the report. If I get news of any other arrivals, I will update everyone in the next report.

The top five in the Fed from the Tullamore comeback looked like this, 1st and 4th S Mc Grotty 1243 and 1216, 2nd P Hegarty 1229, 3rd S Duffy 1216, 5th J+G Ramsey 1215.

A short and concise one this week as the reports tend to be when getting close to the end of the season. Only two races left and it will be all over for another year, with the Fermoy Five Bird next week, followed by the Roscarberry National. It will be interesting to see what the numbers will be like for these two races. Anyway, well done again to all our winners, and a special well done to Jim and Gary, and to Ronnie.
