ADDITIONAL TRAINING RACE 01, CAR RACE
HOT SPOT 4 & TRAINING RACE 13 RESULTS.

LIVESTREAM was available once again for this race and will be used for every race from now on. This means that you can log on to the official web site:- www.samdpr.com and watch the pigeons arriving at the lofts as they fall out of the sky. It is fantastic to be able to look at the pigeons homing live, sitting nearly 6,000 miles away from the lofts.

I logged on early and watched the winning pigeons arrive home at 07.42 GMT (09.42 SA TIME). All of a sudden a gang of about 50 pigeons arrived first, quickly followed by two more similar size groups and then the pigeons literally just fell out of the sky and within a few minutes the lofts were covered by pigeons waiting to trap. The weather at the loft site looked very nice with a light wind but these top class pigeons seemed to manage the task that had been put in front of them. This really is new modern technology at its best.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING RACE 01 was an extra race that was included into the programme and also the Overall Averages to give the team of pigeons more experience after a few shorter tosses had to be missed out because of bad weather and this took place on Wednesday 18th December 2013 from 78km (48 miles) and yet another world record breaking 4,023 pigeons were basketed from 40 different countries, this staggering total was made up by 282 South African pigeons and 3,741 International pigeons and this included 313 from the United Kingdom and 57 from Ireland.

The convoy were liberated at 08.45 in fine and clear conditions, a few clouds and a light head wind, temperature of 19c (66f) and a good steady tough race was anticipated.

It should probably be mentioned that about the same time last year a total of 3,300 pigeons were still in the lofts, so this means that an extra 723 more pigeons made it to this ADDITIONAL TRAINING RACE 01. Surely this just goes to prove that by being careful with the pigeons in the early training tosses pays dividends in the end. The Loft Managers and Staff have done a magnificent job during these early tosses in very poor and testing weather conditions.

I logged onto LIVESTREAM bright and early at about 06.20 GMT (08.20 SA TIME) and the weather at the lofts looked lovely. After a few minutes a small gang of about 25/30 pigeons arrived, circled the lofts and hit the top but one trapped like a rocket, which as it turned out was the race winner. Virtually as quick as this first bunch had arrived another gang and then another gang arrived. As usual some trapped and others just chased other pigeons around the top of the lofts and as in any race, the first one through the traps and over the clocking pads was the winner.

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st OPEN goes to BELGICA –DE WEERD (HENK DE WEERD) from NETHERLANDS with pigeon named GROOVY, which was officially clocked at 08.30.54.60 to record a winning velocity of 1566ypm (53mph), performances to date were 4766th, 4974th, 5214th, 2618th, 2341st, 1034th, 1661st, 1709th, 2021st, 2984th, 510th, 2228th, 3399th, 3066th and now 1st OPEN, then 2nd Jan Hooymans – Hu Zhen Yu from Netherlands, 3rd Lokman Serkan Aydin from Turkey, 4th Defaulter Pigeon, 5th Eldorado Lofts Canada from Canada, 6th Pripko – Svamy from Slovakia, 7th Jaworscy – Michalak from Poland, 8th Leon Van Rooyen from South Africa, 9th Team Siebert – Guenter from Germany, 10th Abdullah Bohaimed from Kuwait, 11th Van Seggelen – Wolvers from Netherlands, 12th Toni Deigner from Germany, 13th Gaby Vandenabeele from Belgium, 14th Carlos Dream Syndicate from United Kingdom, 15th Karel Klemens from Czech Republic, 16th Robert Leon Loft from United States Of America, 17th Xaver Heinloth from Germany, 18th Abdulla Al Thani from Qatar, 19th Ignace Vercauteren from Belgium and 20th Dr Melanie Herding from Germany. This race resulted in 3,610 pigeons being officially recorded by 19.10, leaving 268 pigeons to make it back to the lofts by nightfall. Sunday morning the first pigeons started to roll in from 05.17 and by 18.59 a further 131 pigeons had homed making a total of 3,741 had returned which meant that just (3,378%) pigeons were still missing. The Monday morning loft list showed 3,885 pigeons in the lofts, which is actually 7 more that went to the race, which shows that quite a few more pigeons returned from earlier races to make up this number.

***THE BRAND NEW MOTOR CAR*** went to the pigeon that won 1st OPEN for BELGICA DE WEERD (HENK DE WEERD) from NETHERLANDS with his pigeon named GROOVY , with performances as mentioned above in the Open result. What a smashing early “CHRISTMAS PRESENT” for this great friend of mine. It should also be noted that this is the second Brand New Motor Car that Henk has won in the SAMDPR series, which I personally believe has not been achieved by any other fancier since the organisers started presenting cars as prizes in Car Race Hot Spots numerous years ago.

***THE NINETEEN US$1,000 (£645) HOT SPOT CASH PRIZES*** were won by pigeons that took 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 20th, 21st, 22nd & 23rd OPEN. The pigeons that won 18th from Qatar and 19th from Belgium were Not-Activated so were not eligible to win these US$1,000 cash prizes. SURELY, IF A PIGEON IS WORTH ENTERING INTO THE RACE AT THE START, THEN IT MUST BE WORTH ACTIVATING ONCE THEY GET TO THE CAR RACE HOT SPOTS? Still the fancier that won a bonus US$1,000 cash prize are now all highly delighted, meaning that this pigeon has now already paid for itself. It should be noted that the CAR WINNER does not receive a US$1,000 Cash Prize. For the full results see Results & Listings on SAMDPR Web Site www.samdpr.com

TRAINING RACE 13 took place on Saturday 28th December 2013 from 121km (75 miles) and another world record breaking total for this race of 3,903 pigeons from 40 different countries were basketed and this included 274 South African pigeons and 3,629 International pigeons and this figure included 294 from the United Kingdom and 52 from Ireland. A total of 2,971 pigeons were sent to this same race last year, so this year showed a massive increase of 932 more entries.

The convoy were liberated at 08.00 with a light tail wind, fine, clear conditions and with few clouds and a temperature of 19c (66f) and a fairly fast race was anticipated. However, heavy afternoon rain and strong head winds were forecast and expected at the lofts during the early afternoon, which might hold back some of the latecomers. This actually happened around 14.15 when the temperature was only 21c (70f) and it lasted for around one hour but as usual pigeons still managed to home during this rain.

I logged on to LIVESTREAM at around 07.10 GMT (09.10 SA TIME) and weather looked fine with blue sky and with the palm tree at the back of the lofts bending in the wind, I expected the pigeons to arrive around 09.15 and a massive gang swung round the lofts, two pigeons hit the lofts and the others did a lap of honour, then as the first batch landed one of the first pigeons to land trapped to take the No. 1 spot followed by another and another, then as usual on these shorter races within minutes there were literally hundreds of pigeons on the top of the lofts. Within five minutes there were probably over 1,000 pigeons sitting outside and as usual in these short races, those that trap first win the glory. I am sure as the pigeons get further up the road, the trapping will improve as they will have been flying longer and will want to trap for food and water.

Next event will HOT SPOT CAR RACE 5 on Saturday 4th January 2014 from 350km (218 miles), then Training Race 14 on Wednesday 8th January 2014 from 50km (31 miles), then Training Race 15 on Saturday 11th January 2014 from 80km (50 miles), then Training Race 16 on Wednesday 15th January 2014 from 80km (31 miles), then the penultimate Training Race 17 on Saturday 18th January 2014 from 125km (78 miles) and then THE SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE on Saturday 25th January 2014 from 550km (342 miles). All these races will be officially listed for all to see and view on the SAMDPR Web Site. Of course the weather conditions will have to be right for all of these races to take place, if not they will be basketed and liberated on another day when the weather forecast is better and the Race Director’s decision will be final. The object of this great race from day one has always been to get as many pigeons to the “FINAL RACE” as possible and give all fanciers, competitors and entrants a fair chance in the “FINAL RACE”. Only races of 80km (approx. 50 miles) will count towards The South African Million Dollar Overall ACE PIGEON Averages, which has a total of three cash prizes of US$10,000 (approx. £6,666), US$5,000 (approx. £3,333) and US$2,500 (approx. £1,666) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this category.

NOMINATION RACES will be held on numerous TRAINING RACES, plus the HOT SPOT CAR RACES 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and of course the FINAL RACE. See SAMDPR Web Site for full details. All these races will have US$1, US$2, US£5, US$10, US$20, US$50 & US$100 REGIONAL and US$1, US$2, US$5, US$10, US$20, US$50 & US$100 GLOBAL NOMINATIONS which can be placed on THE SOUTH AFRICAN MILLION DOLLAR Web Site. If you wish to enter any of these GLOBAL or REGIONAL NOMINATIONS, you will have to have credit in your ASI Master Account. If you do not have credit then please forward funds to your Race Shipper so that this can be transferred to your Master Account in time to get your NOMINATIONS placed. Please do not leave it to the last minute to transfer funds as the transfer may not go through in time and this could result in your pigeon or pigeons not winning what they should be rewarded with. This year you can now also place funds directly onto your AS Account with the use on PayPal. Just log onto your AS Account and you will be guided through the process and shown how to proceed.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED AND REGULAR “PRESS RELEASES”, “NEWSLETTERS” AND “UPDATES” WILL BE SENT OUT TO ALL COMPETITORS/ENTRANTS AND SYNDICATE SHAREHOLDERS ON A WEEKLY BASIS OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. ALSO WEEKLY “PRESS RELEASES” WILL BE SENT OUT TO BOTH OUR TWO PIGEON PUBLICATIONS NAMELY THE “BRITISH HOMING WORLD” AND “”THE RACING PIGEON” PLUS IT WILL ALSO BE ON THE REGENCY LOFTS WEB SITE www.regencylofts.com FOR ALL TO VIEW.

***SPECIAL NOTICE*** One point that should be pointed out to all competitors and entrants is that only your NUMBER 1 pigeons is “ACTIVATED” (FULLY PAID UP ENTRY) with the other TWO (2) pigeons in each of your “TEAM OF 3” being your RESERVES or BACK-UP PIGEONS. Another point worth mentioning is if you happened to lose your NUMBER 1 PIGEON, your NUMBER 2 PIGEON would replace it FREE OF CHARGE and likewise if you then lost your NUMBER 2 PIGEON, your NUMBER 3 PIGEON would then replace that one FREE OF CHARGE. If you were unlucky enough to lose all your entries of 3 pigeons in any of your “TEAMS” and they had won no “Special Prize Money” in the new HOT SPOT CAR RACES 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 then you are entitled to a FREE ENTRY into the 19th SAMDPR and all you have to pay is the Registration Fee of US$25 and the official shipping/export costs.

This of course represents great value for your money. All pigeons go to every training toss and Saturday and Wednesday races providing they are fit enough but can only compete for any of the allocated PRIZE MONEY or SPECIAL AWARDS in the 5 x HOT SPOT CAR RACES if they are “ACTIVATED” and that means that these must be paid for prior to the HOT SPOT CAR RACE 1, which took place on SATURDAY 16th NOVEMBER 2013 from 150km (approx. 93 miles). However, if you decide not to “ACTIVATE” your Reserve Pigeon/s before this date, you can go ahead and “ACTIVATE” them prior to any other CAR RACE HOT SPOT and then they will be eligible to fly for the prize money allocated to that race and all future races. The cost to “ACTIVATE” these “RESERVES or BACK-UP PIGEONS” is US$1,000 (approx. £645)(MAY CHANGE SLIGHTLY DEPENDING ON CURRENCY EXCHANGE RATE AT THE TIME) but that will then entitle all these fully paid up pigeons to compete and be eligible to fly for all the extra cash prizes and special awards that amounts to close to US$300,000 (approx. £200,000). The one thing to remember is that once your reserve pigeon or pigeons are fully paid for, if then they get lost and have won no prize money or special awards in the Special Money Races, then you get this money refunded (less about US$15 (£10) for bank charges) or you can have it added to your ASI account, which can then be used to purchase another pigeon at a later date and be entered into the Final Race under your name or syndicate or even under another name of your choice. So as you can see it is “BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY” and pay for them early, after all you have nothing to lose.

(Subject to terms and conditions of entry). The actual cash prizes stated above represent exchange rates at the current time and may of course change at the time of each race depending what the currency exchange rate is on that race day.

It is worth mentioning that six brand new cars have been won by fanciers representing the United Kingdom Team in the last seven years, Richard Elliott and Chris Gordon both won new cars during the 2005/6 race series and Paul & Dave McCarthy won one a new car during the 2006/7 series. During the 2011/12 race series fanciers from the UK won a staggering 3 x brand new motor cars and these were Nev & Angi Evans & Steve Cuthbert, Robert & Peter Montila and then Phil Bond. This in itself was an outstanding team performance. No other country has ever won three cars on the trot. The Irish fancier named John Nash also won a brand new car in the 2008/9 race series. I am hopeful that somebody from the United Kingdom or Ireland will also win one or maybe more brand new cars during the 2013/14 race series. GOOD LUCK TO ALL COMPETITORS.
