Roscrea in County Tipperary was the venue for the fourth race of the young bird season, all the Northern Organizations including the NIPA released at the early time of 7.45am last Saturday in a helping South-west wind. The birds made light work of the journey to home loft’s, best of the lot was A & N Lewis of Doagh & District recording velocity 1810ypm. The winner was bred by Cock Crow lofts in Dromore and it was a good day for Wayne Doonan who returned a great card to finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th Open NIPA.

Fast race from Roscrea -

Mid Antrim birds were competing from Roscrea in the fourth race of the young bird programme, due to a poor weather forecast the birds were released early on Saturday 9th August. Liberation was at 7.45am in a helping south west wind and it was another good call by the Lib Committee with almost full returns again. Early birds were recorded in all area’s, best of the lot locally was Danny Dixon of Dunloy who recorded velocity 1784, exceeding a mile a minute for the 153 miles. Danny tops both the Combine & Sect B ahead of Young McManus & Sons of Ahoghill who have won all four races and topped the Comb & Sect in last week’s race from Tullamore. Ronnie Johnston has a pair of glasses left at the INFC race marking, he thinks they belong to a fancier in the Ballymena area, inside the box is McQuitty & Davis.

Club winners filled the top two places in the recent race from Roscrea, Trevor McDonald was best doing velocity 1721, T & J McDonald had the Card of the Day with the top three positions in the Coleraine Premier. Sammy Thompson was next best his Cheq Pied cock giving him his first win in the Windsor Social and also collecting the pools. Danny Dixon from Dunloy had the early bird from Roscrea winning 1st MAC, 1st Sect B & 53rd Open NIPA with 21,391 birds competing.
