Good days racing from Clonmel -

The NIPA members got a fantastic race from Clonmel in County Tipperary, the young birds were on their fifth race of the old bird season. The old bird event from the same point was far from good, reports from the weekend was that most birds returned to home lofts. Liberation on Saturday 16th August was at 9.45am in a Westerly wind which was to be a lot stronger at the home end. East Antrim lofts dominated the result as expected but 1st Open NIPA was won by J Mount & Son of Milltown doing velocity 1683ypm.

Flying into a fresh west wind to take 4th Open in this area was an exceptional performance and is also winner of 1st Section. This performance follows up from Malcolm's 1st & 2nd Section in Roscrea old birds. He has this year taken 17 x Section positions and 12 x NIPA Open positions with birdage usually around 5,000 in the Section and 20,000 in the Open.

Markethill Gold Ring Race - A Reminder that the race takes place from Fermoy this coming weekend 23/08/14. Prizes are as follows 1st £400, 2nd £250, 3rd £150, 4th £100. Houston Bros best from Clonmel –

Weekend weather was again difficult and the proposed very early liberation was not possible, strings were eventually cut at 9.45am and 20,000 NIPA birds including Mid Antrim were released into a Westerly wind which was to be stronger at the home end. Winners again made light of the 180 odd miles to home lofts and in this 5th race of the young bird season the vast majority were home in good time. Another great call by the liberation team. Best in Mid Antrim was Houston Bros of Randalstown who recorded velocity 1575 followed by the top two in Kells & Dist Brian Swann and Scott & Clements and then Mr & Mrs Sempey who had the best two birds in Ballymena. The winning Blue w/f hen was bred by Surgenor Bros of Kells the best of their Busschaert & Braspenning family and the runner up was bred by Tom McAlonan. This Dark Pied hen was Lambrecht, the McAlonan loft has the very best from Danny Dixon.

Race marking for Talbenny YB National –
The entry fees for the local clubs will be collected in the Cullybackey Centre on Wednesday 27th August between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. Birds will be race marked in Cullybackey on Thursday 28th August between 4.00pm and 6.30pm. Clocks will be ready for collection after the transporter leaves Cullybackey.

Best in Coleraine in the weekend event from Clonmel was J L Madden of the Coleraine Premier, the loft scored a good 1st, 2nd and 3rd with the winner recording velocity 1514. He was just a decimal point ahead of J Hutchinson & Son who won Ballymoney HPS, Ballymoney West Combine and Dervock RPC. J & M Milliken had 1st & 2nd in Rasharkin & District with the winner recording velocity 1534.

Great race from Clonmel -

Clonmel in County Tipperary was the venue for the fifth race of the NIPA young bird season, after a very poor old bird event from this point we were looking for a better result. Weather was again a big problem and the intention was to have an early liberation. That was not possible and the birds were finally released at 9.45am in a Westerly wind which was to be a lot stronger at the home end. Winners made very good time and most of the birds were home in good time as well, that’s three good races on the trot and excellent preparation for the end of the month Nationals from Talbenny and Penzance. Best bird locally was timed by Houston Bros on the main Antrim/Ballymena line for 1st Randalstown doing velocity 1575, the NIPA Sect B was topped by Fleming Bros of Crumlin & Dist on velocity 1589. In East Antrim Sect C a lot of early arrivals, 1st Sect Bingham & Seaton of Ligoniel finished a good 3rd Open NIPA with over 20,000 birds competing.
