Fermoy Double for Beechpark Social –

The penultimate race of the NIPA young bird season was flown last Saturday 6th September from Fermoy in County Cork, also flown in duplicate the annual 5 Bird Championship for the youngsters. It was a weekend to remember for NIPA Ass Secretary Gregory McEvoy of Beechpark Social winning 1st Open NIPA in both races.

Soon be time about thinking of making claims for the various awards, NIPA is a fortnight after the final race from Rosscarbery. See the Year Book for all information, a big list of awards. The RPRA (Irish Region) details are listed in the recent BHW, all claims by 4th October. Mileage Awards are as usual – 0-250 Miles, 251-450 Miles, Over 450 Miles, Best Single Bird Performance OB or YB, Young Fancier for any of the above 8-16yrs racing on own. Best in the NIPA Sect B from Fermoy was John & Niall Lamb who timed a Blue Jacobs & Grondelaer bred by Gerald Delaney of the Oroory Hill Stud in Dromore. Raced to perch on the darkness system this is the second 1st Section winner Gerald has bred for the Lamb loft. George McDowell the Mid Antrim winner who races in Kells & Dist was next best followed by Thompson Bros having another top young bird season in Crumlin, 2 x 1sts Sect B and a lot more positions.

The penultimate race of the young bird season was flown last weekend from Fermoy in County Cork, with it the 5 Bird Championship was flown in duplicate. Liberation was delayed due to low cloud in the release area. Strings were cut and the birds were away at 12.15pm in a North NE wind, a fairly hard race was expected for the 200 odd miles into Mid Antrim. That’s how it turned out with a few big early arrivals and some birds missing at dark, they had just run out of time. MAC Secretary George McDowell was not hanging around recording his Blue hen at 17.12hrs to record velocity 1180 and take 1st Combine. Good reward for George who started late after some problems in the early training, the 5 Bird is a favourite race for the loft. Danny Dixon is next best followed by Alan Darragh (Cullybackey), Paddy McManus (Ahoghill) and Brian Swann (Kells) who all had good cards. Brian O’Rawe was best in Ballymena topping the big club for the first time with the young ones doing velocity 1153 into Warden Street.

Cullybackey Centre: Details for the Rosscarbery YB Inl Nat race marking are as follows. Entry fees etc. with club cheque collect Wednesday 10th September from 8.30 - 9.30pm at the Cullybackey club rooms. Birds will be race marked 2.00 - 4.30pm on Friday 12th September. The penultimate race of the young bird season from Fermoy in County Cork was made to measure for the lofts in the Crumlin & District topping the local NIPA Section B in both the ordinary race and then as well in the duplicate 5 Bird Championship. Best bird overall was timed by J & N Lamb recording velocity 1184 while McConville Bros were just a yard clear of Fleming Bros in the 5 Bird. Grattan Bros of Eastway won 1st in the East Antrim Sect C in the 5 Bird finishing 10th Open NIPA recording velocity 1228. George McDowell of Kells & Dist had 1st MAC in Fermoy doing velocity 1180. Liberation was at the later time of 12.15pm in a North NE wind, the delay due to low cloud in the release area.

Late liberation in Fermoy -

Fermoy in County Cork was the venue for the penultimate race of the NIPA young bird season, late liberation at 12.15pm in a North NE wind kept the early arrivals back till tea time and a number were missing at dark. Diamond Bros were just ahead of two birds for D Coyles & Son for the top positions in the Coleraine Triangle and and Danny Dixon was best again in Ballymoney HPS followed by D & H Stuart who took 1st & 2nd in Dervock RPS.
