What another fantastic season it has been for Glen Buckley & Son of Annaghmore, back in May the loft topped the NIPA in a fast Old Bird Inland Nat from Rosscarbery, and in the YB equivalent have done the same thing this time 1st & 2nd Open NIPA Rosscarbery OB Inl National. What a record this team have, already three times winners of the Premier OB National, outstanding. David Calvin had a big result for Loughgall and also well placed Steven O’Brien of Monaghan with two birds. All the top places were won in the NIPA Sect E but good winners were reported across the country, all told 6 x 1st Sect winners in the Top 20.

Soon be time about thinking of making claims for the various awards, NIPA is a fortnight after the final race from Rosscarbery. See the Year Book for all information, a big list of awards. The RPRA (Irish Region) details are listed in the recent BHW, all claims by 4th October. Mileage Awards are as usual – 0-250 Miles, 251-450 Miles, Over 450 Miles, Best Single Bird Performance OB or YB, Young Fancier for any of the above 8-16yrs racing on own. Finally Club Secretary to submit claims for Single Bird Performance Talbenny (2) & Penzance. No claim yet from Sect E. Application Forms available from Region Secretary with SAE to M/M Reid, 131 North Road, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. BT38 7QJ. Claims should be made immediately for the Carrick & Dist Breeder/Buyer, race flown from Fermoy (2) on 6th September.

The final race of the NIPA season was the Young Bird Inland National flown from Rosscarbery in County Cork. Fog and mist in the release area and on parts of the route delayed the liberation, strings were finally cut at 12 Noon with the birds released in a Lt South East wind. It turned out another good race with the winners into Mid Antrim timed around tea time. Cullybackey Centre leading lofts were all club winners, Alan Darragh 1st Cullybackey, Stewart Bros 1st Randalstown, Connolly & Purvis 1st Ballymena & Dist, Jimmy Rock 1st Harryville, Surgenor Bros 1st Kells, Paddy McManus 1st Ahoghill and J & M Milliken with a very good card 1st Rasharkin & Dist. In MAC it was another win for Danny Dixon of Dunloy winning 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th with the winner doing velocity1345.

In the Antrim area the best bird in the final race from Rosscarbery was timed into Crumlin by the high flying Fleming Bros. Their Blue hen was timed at 17.04 hours flying 240 miles for velocity 1391 collecting 1st Club, 1st Sect B and a very good 8th Open NIPA 396/3782. The bird was bred by Ted Davin of Liverpool. Next best for Crumlin & Dist were Thompson Bros and McConville Bros with Tom Fleming winning 1st Muckamore.

Rosscarbery in County Cork was the venue for the final race of the young bird season, the NIPA Inland National, liberation was delayed until 12 Noon due to for and mist both at the release area and over parts of the route. The local area done well with D & H Stuart of Ballymoney topping the Coleraine Centre with the two best birds and well placed in the NIPA Sect B and the ever present Danny Dixon had the top four places in the Mid Antrim Combine. The winner was a daughter of his famous “Heartbreaker” the first three arrivals were in fact Lambrecht, the othe bird was Van de Brande. Best in Coleraine was T & J McDonald who had a good card to win 1st Coleraine Triangle.
