Larne Monster Show -

The Annual Monster Show held in the East Antrim town of Larne had just short of 400 birds penned for the team of judges who had travelled down from Hillsborough & Maze and Belfast. It was a new venture as far as the hosts Larne & District were concerned with Chairman Allister McNaghten assisted by Secretary Stephanie O’Neill, MC Mark McCormick and Auctioneer Joe McLoughlin.

Its congratulations to visitors from Donaghcloney with Alwyn Neill collection Best in Show and Timmy Mawhinney Best Opposite Sex on this occasion. The winner for Alwyn had won BOS before while the Mawhinney Bird has previously won BIS here and other top awards at Dublin & Blackpool Shows. Alwyn Neill had 1st in both Old Hens and Young Cocks, T & K Mawhinney were 1st in Old Cock, Owen O’Neill & Son from Glenarm & Dist had 1st in Young Hens, Russell Bros from Cullybackey had 1st in Old Bird Eye-sign and R Mills & Son were to win the lone 1st for the host club in Young Bird Eye-sign. Results were as follows.

Old Cocks (68 Birds) – 1st, 2nd, 4th, VHC & Commended T & K Mawhinney, 3rd V Montgomery, HC A Neill. Judge Gary Jennings. Old Hens (59 Birds) – 1st & 4th A Neill, 2nd V Montgomery, 3rd F Simpson, VHC, HC & Commended T & K Mawhinney. Judge Sid Grainger. Young Cocks (68 Birds) – 1st & 3rd A Neill, 2nd & 4th T & K Mawhinney, VHC V Montgomery, HC Russell Bros, Commended O O’Neill & Son. Judge Stevie Fegan. Young Hens (46 Birds) – 1st O O’Neill & Son, 2nd A S McNaghten, 3rd & HC T & K Mawhinney, 4th F Simpson, VHC M/M C Hayes, Commended W & N Gilbert. Judge Clyde Rollins. Old Bird Eye-sign (84 Birds) – 1st, 2nd & VHC Russell Bros, 3rd M/M Delaney, 4th & Commended M/M C Hayes, HC A Neill. Judge B Hogg & Sons. Young Bird Eye-sign (57 Birds) – 1st & 3rd R Mills & Son, 2nd, VHC & HC Russell Bros, 4th F Simpson, Commended W & N Gilbert. Judge B Hogg & Sons.

Result of the Christmas Draw – 1st Prize £100 won by Hazel Mills, 2nd Prize £50 won by Gilbert Reid, 3rd Prize Christmas Turkey won by Hugh McKendry, 4th Prize a Meal for Two won by Eddie McAuley, 5th Prize Christmas Hamper won by C Magill, 6th Prize Christmas Cake won by M Stinson, 7th Prize Bottle of Spirits won by Brian McCammon.

Larne & District HPS would like to thank all those fanciers and friends who supported the Monster Show held on Saturday 29th November. Many thanks to the team of judges and congratulations to all the winners including A Neill BIS and T & K Mawhinney BOS. The best Larne & Dist competitor was R Mills & Son who won the prize donated by Money Matters of Larne and thanks to Johnny Hastings for this. Many thanks as well to Robert & June Kirkwood for Specials and members of the Show Committee who donated prizes, trade stands in attendance included June and Robert Kirkwood (Lisburn), Roy Irwin (Arlington lofts) with birds for sale, and Liam O'Neill (Larne) wooden products....

Larne and District young bird show, Saturday 13th December 2014, was a massive success largely thanks to Kells judges Messrs Surgenor and Agnew with the help of local man Brian
Derbyshire, all of whom volunteered their services in a last minute call-up. The class results, starting with first, were;
