Mallow (1) - Open & Section

The East Down Combine was formed in 1967 and caters for pigeons fanciers within the County of Down in Northern Ireland. There are currently 22 clubs with approx 200 members sending a birdage of up to 5,000 pigeons each week. The Combine is currently spilt into 2 Section with a line running North to South creating an East to West Section. The membership currently race for 40 Open positions and 20 Section positions on a weekly basis. The Combine is affiliated to The Irish Homing Union Regulating and Promoting the Sport of Pigeon Racing in Ireland since 1895. Ballylesson HPS 12/223 – 1st John Patterson 1882, 2nd John Patterson 1861, 3rd C & D Smyth & Son 1840, 4th C & D Smyth & Son 1839, 5th C & D Smyth & Son 1837, 6th A Cousins & Sons 1832, 7th C & D Smyth & Son 1829, 8th C & D Smyth & Son 1828, 9th A Cousins & Sons 1827, 10th John Patterson 1826. There is no stopping the formidable and legendary ‘JP’ one of the all time greats in Irish Pigeon racing and he continues this year in fine form at over 80 years old, this his fourth Red Card in five races and looks to have a very good pigeon that will feature highly if in fact not winning the EDC Open. Nothing new for John of course he has more of these 1st Open diploma’s than the majority of us have 1st Club Diploma’s.

Dundonald HPS 7/212 – 1st J Young & Partners 1879, 2nd J Young & Partners 1857, 3rd M Foulis 1854, 4th Rea & Warke 1832, 5th J Young & Partners 1828, 6th J Young & Partners 1828, 7th J Young & Partners 1827, 8th J young & Partners 1826, 9th R Irwin 1826, 10th R Irwin 1825. Jim Young and Partners make it two wins on the trot as well as finishing 2nd Club this week with another four in the top ten, an excellent team performance, the ever consistent Mark Foulis is third ahead of the partnership of Rea & Warke who finish 4th club following their 6th Club last week from Nenagh.

Cloughey HPS 7/193 – 1st Shaw & Edgar 1870, 2nd Shaw & Edgar 1851, 3rd Shaw Edgar 1826, 4th Gordon Bros & Sons 1826, 5th Gordon Bros & Sons 1820, 6th Gordon Bros & Sons 1820, 7th H Gordon & Partners 1799, 8th C Murray & Partners 1789, 9th C Murray & Partners, 10th Mr & Mrs T Adair 1753. Great performance by the Shaw & Edgar partnership following a 1st and 2nd Club last week, going one better this week and taking the first three, this is the partnerships second Red Card of the season. The ever consistent Gordon family take the next three in the Club.

Bangor RPC 15/264 – 1st R Moore & Son 1870, 2nd R Moore & Son 1870, 3rd Burgess & Brennan 1849, 4th Burgess & Brennan 1830, 5th Burgess & Brennan 1829, 6th R Moore & Son 1823, 7th Lambert & Stewart 1819, 8th J Thompson 1818, 9th D & J Caskey 1790, 10th D & J Caskey 1790. Third win of the season from Reggie and son David who timed a couple of birds together to finish 1st and 2nd on the same yard, ahead of the Burgess & Brennan partnership who are starting to show consistency week in week out. Must also mention Jack Thompson who has a couple of good arrivals in the top 12 of the result, well done Jack.

South Down Federation – 1st D Croskery & Son, Annsborough 1864; 2nd S Halpin & Sons Tyrella 1846; 3rd G Maginn, Annalong 1843; 4th S Milligan & Daughter, Tyrella 1836; 5th M Croskery, Annsborough 1822; 6th R McDowell & Son, Annsborough 1822; 7th P Brown, Annsborough 1821; 8th D McNabb & Partners, Tyrella 1815; 9th M Croskery, Annsborough 1814; 10th R J Keown, Annsborough 1814. Brendan is doing a good job keeping the South down Federation coming within hours of the race taking place, the D Croskery & Son partnership of Annsborough are the worthy winners this week, this their first Federation success of 2009, they are in fact the fifth different winner of the Fed in 2009.

Annsborough HPS 424 Sent – 1st D Croskery & Son 1864, 2nd Mickey Croskery 1822, 3rd R McDowell & Son 1822, 4th Patrick Brown 1821, 5th Mickey Croskery 1814, 6th R J Keown 1814, 7th James Cleland 1811, 8th L A Toner 1806, 9th M Croskery & Son 1805, 10th James Cleland 1803. The D Croskery & Son partnership top the very strong and competitive Annsborough Club this week by over 40 yards on a fast day with over 400 pigeons competing following their 4th Club last week from Nenagh. The Partnership of Mickey Croskery & Son who recorded a total of 7 x 1st club’s in 2008 finish second this week, ahead of the McDowell boys in third with Patrick Brown in 4th who won this corresponding race last year at Club level.

Hillfoot HPS 9/152 – 1st J Scates & Sons 1857, 2nd M McClure 1823, 3rd H Flynn 1822, 4th M McClure 1815, 5th D Flynn 1812, 6th M McClure 1812, 7th J Scates & Sons 1811, 8th J Scates & Sons 1811, 9th D Flynn 1796, 10th H Flynn 1786. The Scates boys go head to head with Hugh Flynn after this weekends success making it two wins on the trot, both lofts are now on 2 x 1st Club’s for 2009, the McClure loft finishes credibly in runner-up spot ahead of hugh Flynn who finished runner-up last week.

Crossgar HPS 11/415 – 1st McGiverns & Adairs 1847, 2nd McCartan & Woodsides 1845, 3rd McCartan & Woodsides 1836, 4th McCartan & Woodsides 1833, 5th A & A Cheevers 1832, 6th S & K Duke 1829, 7th S & K Duke 1823, 8th S & K Duke 1823, 9th McCartan & Woodsides 1820, 10th McCartan & Woodsides 1814. The four times 1st Club winners of 2008 get of the mark in 2009 for the first time with Red Card success from Mallow with the ever consistent partnership of McCartan & Woodsides taking the next three to complete the top four. Congratulations to the hard working Secretary Sammy Duke on topping the Open last week from Nenagh.

Tyrella HPS 8/225 – 1st S Halpin & Sons 1846, 2nd S Milligan & Daughter 1836, 3rd D McNabb & Partners 1815, 4th S & E McGaw 1800, 5th S Haplin & Sons 1799, 6th D McNabb & Partners 1799, 7th S & E McGaw 1797; 8th S Haplin & Sons 1787, 9th C Fitzimmons & Sons 1779; 10th D McNabb & Partners 1779. The Halpin Boys are to the fore once again this week making it three Red Cards on the trot which is a fine achievement I see from the result last week the boys finished a very impressive 3rd and 5th Open from Nenagh, the Milligan loft moves up a place this week following their 3rd Club last week finishing 19th Open.

Annalong HPS 16/287 – 1st G Maginn 1843, 2nd J Newell 1802, 3rd K Rooney & Son 1802, 4th K Rooney & Son 1802, 5th K Rooney & Son 1802, 6th K Rooney & Son 1802, 7th K Rooney & Son 1801, 8th J Newell 1797, 9th J Newell 1790, 10th B McConnell 1790. An excellent winner for the Maginn loft this week topping the Club by over 40 yards ahead of Jim Newell in runner-up spot with the ever consistent Rooney loft with the next five in the Club and a very good card on the day.

Killyleagh & District – 1st J & P Rice 1838, 2nd J & P Rice 1836, 3rd T & C Kilpatrick 1822, 4th T & C Kilpatrick 1804. Well done to Patsy Rice who is continuing to lead the way as the loft did in 2008 fantastic and consistent to the fore. The T & C Kilpatrick partnership continue to show great form also finishing 3rd and 4th this week from Mallow.

Dundrum HPS 7/135 – 1st J Maguire & Partners 1813, 2nd A Murray & Son 1812, 3rd A Murray & Son 1810, 4th A Murray & Son 1802, 5th B Chambers 1777, 6th A McNamara & Partners 1769, 7th A Murray & Son 1767, 8th B Chambers 1762, 9th A Murray & Son 1761, 10th J Maguire & Partners 1719. The Maguire loft assisted with their partners return to the top of the Club sheet this week to record their fourth success in five races so far in 2009, the Murray boys take the next three and are starting to hit top form following last week success that seen them finish runner-up in the EDC Open behind Sammy Duke and take the first six positions in the Club.

Drumaness Mills HPS – 1st C Lavery 1813, 2nd G Morrison & Daughters 1796, 3rd G Morrison & Daughters 1794, 4th C Lavery 1780, 5th J Kirk & Son 1758, 6th J Kirk & Son 1736, 7th J Kirk & Son 1714, 8th G Morrison & Daughters 1699, 9th G Morrison & Daughters 1690, 10th P O’Connor 1661. The Lavery loft takes top spot this week for the first time in 2009 also finishing 4th Club to crown a good day. Following success last week for the Morrison loft they continue to race to a high standard finishing 2nd and 3rd Club this week.

Ballynahinch Social – R Hunter 1799, 2nd J Gillespie & Sons 1793, 3rd R Hunter 1789, 4th S & P Logan 1788, 5th S & P Logan 1780, 6th H Wallace 1770, 7th S & P Logan 1756, 8th J Gillespie & Sons 1750, 9th W Catherwood & Sons 1749, 10th J Gillespie & Sons 1748. Rab Hunter continues with his dominance at the top of the result sheet this season, the result this week makes it four 1st Clubs on the trot, very consistent racing. The Gillespie boys are sitting handy in the runner-up spot.
