Farming Life - Wednesday 22/04/15

The News Letter, now in its fourth century of continuous publication, has come a long way since it first saw the light of day in 1737. On a visit to Northern Ireland, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth described the longevity of the newspaper as "an achievement in which the people of Northern Ireland can take great pride". Pigeon News is featured in the Farming Life supplement each Wednesday.

The Grosvenor HPS Childrens Cancer Appeal will be held at Grosvenor Clubrooms Iveagh St Belfast and they invite all fanciers to their Grand Charity Auction - A Night Of The Stars. This will be in aid of CLIC Sargent home appeal and if your honest I suppose just like myself you probably don’t know that much about Clic Sargent so below is a bit taken from their website and a link to their site their purpose is to provide rest-bite for children and their families. Good news, CLIC Sargent has hit its target! The Northern Ireland Appeal has raised an incredible £3.7m for two Homes from Home in Belfast - thanks to donations from the public and amazing generosity of the people of Northern Ireland.

Now your maybe thinking if they have hit their target why raise more money well with all sorts of cut backs money is always needed should that be for medical equipment of simply toys for kids to play with and to me anyway I think of equal importance to a sick child this is a really good cause one that like me we all hope it’s a service we never have to avail of. PLEASE PLEASE SUPPORT THIS AUCTION
AND DIG DEEP. Night of the Stars Auctioneer is Ronnie Johnston.

The local birds were in Tullamore for the opening race of the old bird season, liberation in the County Offaly venue was delayed until 12 Noon, birds released in an Easterly wind. As expected the Rasharkin & Dist dominated the result, and we had another top performance for the Champions of last season with Steele & McNeill sitting proudly at the top. Their good Dark Cheq Lambrecht cock “Champion 02” was racing on widowhood and wins for the 5 th time, a top result from a small racing loft. All member clubs have supplied names for the Champions League, the draw and result following the race from Tullamore will be available soon. Best in Ballymena was McAlonan Bros who timed a sprint Van den Brande Red hen, Ballymena & Dist had most birds away.
