Sarsfield RPC results report for 2015

First of all congratulations to all the members in the club on winning the Irish South Road Federation shield for best club in the Fed 2015
It has been a great year results wise for the club at fed level, with some terrific performances by members from the first to the last race.

Huge congratulations to club champions again this year M/M Sean Hunt & Family, not only did the corn store lads win an incredible 13 club races, 6 of these they took the first 3 and a couple they returned the top 6, a fantastic feat in such a strong club. they also scooped the Section C averages and the biggest prizes of the year the ISRF young bird/old bird and combined averages in all Federation races.
Along the way they topped the fed from Tramore with 11078 birds and Thurles when 8913 birds went they also had the best young bird in the fed scoring 287 points with the following results. 2nd Open Barleycove 2935 birds, 11th fed Skibbereen 5520 birds, 46th fed Mallow 8708 birds and finally 58th fed from Castletown with 4987 birds gone, what a pigeon. Over the last 3 or 4 years the lads have pushed and pushed what can be done in club and fed level and I have no doubt they will continue to put up brilliant results in the years to come, what it has done is to push the rest of the top flyers in the club to try even harder and I believe this shows in the overall fed results the bar just keeps getting higher and if you stop to look around you will be left behind.

Another man who had his best ever year in the club and an example of the above ethos is Mick Hoolahan Snr, it was a shock to me to find that Mick had never won a race before this season, he certainly made up for it with some stunning performances including breaking his novice in the best manner possible winning not only the club but also claiming an open win from the first Barleycove (our longest inland race) The Open races was where he done most of his damage taking 1st club 17th open from the young bird Barleycove and just to show its not all land based racing he secured his third win of the year 1st club 12th Open from Penzance .

If the Hunt family were the loft to beat on the land one loft really stood out on the water this season. Tomo and Alan Cole racing as Cole Bros took the channel by the scruff of the neck and shook the life out of it. we got a taste from the first Truro race where they placed 4th, nothing unusual as the lads can fly any distance and score well, the following channel race was from Talbenny on the South coast of Wales, this is where the lads started to excel, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th almost certainly won the channel averages there and then but they had not finished, 2nd the following week from Penzance and followed that with another red card and 5th open from the same race point a week later. France was coming up and the boys sent, why wouldn\'t they and it was no surprise for them to clock one of only 3 club birds to win first club 20th open and of course the channel average, just to be sure they also clocked for 2nd club 26th open from the Young bird derby from Talbenny, definitely one to watch for the channel Opens next season, great year lads.

John Farrell kicked in with a couple of wins and with John flying very short in the club they were well earned, he started off perfectly winning the first race from Thurles by the slimmest of margins doing 1303 and then took a young bird Pilmore and 4th fed doing 1935.
Also collecting a pair of wins is M/M Mick Flynn these coming back to back from Pilmore and Mallow vel 2102 and 1477 this one collecting 4th fed.
The flyers with one win each are as follows.

Tony Kavanagh celebrated his first year in the club by clinching a first win from Truro in the opening channel race and claiming 7th open.
Former open winner Anto Sweeney stepped up to the plate in June and took the red card and 3rd fed from Skibbereen.
New partnership of Kevin and Mum, Edna Barry claimed the young bird Derby win from Talbenny and 24th open.
M/M Padner Byrne had a 1, 2 from the come back Thurles race in July for 5th and 7th fed.

Our hard working secretary Thomas Daniel got in on the act from Thurles in August doing 2079 for 3rd fed.
And just when he thought he wasn\'t going to get one, former club champ Tony Byrne clinched the all important win at the final attemp from Skibbereen.
Some of the lads who where unlucky not to collect a red card Pat Byrne & Fam 3 X 2nds and 2 X 3rds and another former champ Pat Craven who hit the bar once and had 3 X 3rds.
So all in all a season to be remembered for many reasons record breaking flying by Sean and family, terrific seasons for the Hoolahan and Cole clans and the shield back in Ballyer.

The club presentation will be held on the 11th of December in the club house and we are also proud to be hosting the ISRF presentation the day after the Dublin show 15th November, see you all there.
Kevin.
