Borough of Ballymena – In the Ballymena area of competition the big early bird was timed in Kells by Jeff Surgenor at 12.17pm recording velocity 1331 for the 126 miles, J Eagleson & Son who had a good card were next best winning Ballymena & District, their best result since returning to the sport. Alan Darragh (Cullybackey) and Paddy McManus (Ahoghill) were both winning for the second week, always the lofts to beat, and MDC Magill had top spot in Harryville timing their winner at 12.20pm in Drumtara. The NIPA birds were released at 9.30am in a North West wind, it turned out one of the best races for many years.

This week’s result from Tullamore was a great result for J Eagleson & Sons. They timed a Chequered white flight hen at 12.20pm, recording velocity 1308 for the 126 miles. This hen is raced using the roundabout system. The sire of this hen is Luck Van Macklen and dam Van De Weyre both breed by Paddy McManus of Ahoghill. We had 14 members sending 319 birds. North West review -
For the second race of the old bird season the local birds were in Tullamore Co Offaly, over 17,000 birds were released by the NIPA at 9.30am in a North West wind. Coleraine Premier who won 1st Open NIPA last week from Mullingar had another top result, this time the winner was Hanson & Harpur who timed at 12.37pm to record velocity 1309 for the 139 miles. J L Madden was next best followed by three birds for D Coyles & Son. Terence McCrudden had the big early bird in the Coleraine & County Derry recording velocity 1300. J & M Milliken topped Rasharkin for the second week with another very good card and J Hutchinson & Son had the winner in both Ballymoney and Dervock.

North West review -
For the second race of the old bird season the local birds were in Tullamore Co Offaly, over 17,000 birds were released by the NIPA at 9.30am in a North West wind. Coleraine Premier who won 1st Open NIPA last week from Mullingar had another top result, this time the winner was Hanson & Harpur who timed at 12.37pm to record velocity 1309 for the 139 miles. J L Madden was next best followed by three birds for D Coyles & Son. Terence McCrudden had the big early bird in the Coleraine & County Derry recording velocity 1300. J & M Milliken topped Rasharkin for the second week with another very good card and J Hutchinson & Son had the winner in both Ballymoney and Dervock.
