Results Talbenny (1) - 30/05/09

Post by willie reynolds »

Last weekend saw the start of the cross channel season with the NIPA liberating from Talbenny in South Wales roughly 245 miles to local fanciers. With a very favourable forecast and a helping south/easterly wind many fanciers entered their full teams for this event with 67 members sending 528 birds. As it turned out however channel racing and Talbenny in particular can be unpredictable and while the leading pigeons put up good velocities there were many empty perches come nightfall. Winning his first ever City of Derry Federation race is Foyle member Jamsie Gallagher who should be well pleased with this result with his timer well ahead of the competition. Runner up spot goes to Brian Maguire of the Maguire & McDevitt partnership while the Ballymac loft of Stephen Barker claims 3rd position. The Southway loft of Tommy McDaid puts up a great performance having four birds in the result taking 4th,10th,17th & 18th. Liam Hegarty & Son completes the top five.

Other Results : 6th - P Mc Laughlin ; 7th - E Quigley ; 8th - Dunne & Quigley ; 9th - Quigley & Dunne ; 11th & 16th - L & M Moran ; 12th - S Duffy ; 13th - N & S Mc Grotty ; 14th - M Harkin; 15th - W & D Hamilton ; 19th - T Mullan & Son ; 20th - F Ramsay.

Well done to the McIlmoyle loft who timed a very good Club winner from Talbenny and likely to feature well in the NIPA Section and Open result. The Witherow operation are never to far away and finish 2nd and 3rd this week with the club winner putting another into the clock to complete the top four.

Omagh & District 6/81 – 1st Alan Hall 1703, 2nd Alan Hall 1690, 3rd Alan Hall 1687, 4th A Hall 1685, 5th R Adams 1648, 6th R Adams 1613, 7th A Kelly 1588, 8th A Kelly 1546, 9th A Kelly 1517, 10th A Kelly 1496. Very Well done to NIPA Committee man Alan Hall on a super result from the first cross channel race of the NIPA calendar to date taking the top four in the Club with two hundred yards between 1st and 10th in the Club illustrating just how difficult it was for the birds into Omagh.

Foyle RPC 30/233 – 1st James Gallagher 1671, 2nd Brian, Iris, Maguire & McDevitt 1625, 3rd Steven Barker, 4th Tommy McDaid, 5th Liam Hegarty & Son, 6th Tomy McDaid, 7th Louis & Michael Moran, 8th Sean Duffy, 9th Noel & Sean McGrotty, 10th Michael Harkin. James Gallagher tops the Club for the first time this season with this now the eighth different winner in the strong and very competitive Foyle RPC this season. It was a hard fly up into Derry from Talbenny and there is a few empty perches about.

Full praise to Danny Farrell who tops the Club this week with a Busschaert that won this corresponding race back in 2007, none of the birds were raced in 2008 due to loft renovations, what a performance considering no racing in 2008 and again this stunning pigeons comes out and wins the Club at a canter from a difficult enough race. The consistent partnership of Quinn & Harper are on his heels this week in second spot and they as usual are having a good season.
