The 5th race of the NIPA old bird season was flown from Fermoy, the original plan of going to Corrin was not possible to use for the Sunday liberation. Because of the unsettled conditions the decision was made to race mark on Saturday for a possible release on Sunday. Conditions across Ireland were poor early on but cleared up and the NIPA released at the later time of 14.50hrs in a Lt SE wind. Result was tight at the top with the ace racer from Loughgall Nelson Weir winning in a photo finish with J & M Milligan a yard clear of the Coleraine duo Hanson & Harpur and Leslie Madden.

A large number of birds were missing at dark with many turning up the next morning in good conditions. Best bird in the Ballymena area was timed in Harryville by Allen McBride who flies to Lettercreeve, his bird was timed at 19.25hrs flying 200 miles. He wins with a son of Blue Star winner of 1st Section Rosscarbery Cocks Nat and 2nd Section Pilmore Beach, dam was a Van Loon. Other local winners included Mr & Mrs Robinson 1st Ahoghill (1274), J Simpson 1st Broughshane (1268), and Reid Bros & McCloy 1st Cullybackey (1264), Harry had the top four arrivals here.

Mid Antrim Combine birds were back in Fermoy for the 5th race of the old bird season, liberation was delayed until Sunday at 14.50hrs in a Lt SE wind. Winning birds were taking under 5 hours but many did not make it on the day. Rasharkin and J & M Milliken in particular were best again, they timed a yearling hen on total widowhood at 19.27hrs to record velocity 1323 for the 208 miles. The breeding was one of their long distance Dutch stock, Sjaak Buwalda remember that name.

Hanson and Harpur make it four wins in a row in a close finish from Fermoy in the Coleraine Premier. Jimmy Hanson makes it a magical four straight wins with his good Leo van Rijn hen who has now won 4 x 1st in the big club. She won 1st Section from Rosscarbery before in an east wind and Jimmy fancied her on these same conditions as she was his all pooled and won the pools also of £64. Leslie Madden pushed him very close and was beaten into second by decimals with one of his secret lines. Both these birds will be well up in the Nipa Open result.

Mid Antrim Combine birds were back in Fermoy for the 5th race of the old bird season, liberation was delayed until Sunday at 14.50hrs in a Lt SE wind. Winning birds were taking under 5 hours but many did not make it on the day. Rasharkin and J & M Milliken in particular were best again, they timed a yearling hen on total widowhood at 19.27hrs to record velocity 1323 for the 208 miles. The breeding was one of their long distance Dutch stock, Sjaak Buwalda remember that name.
