The NIPA Old Bird Classic was flown once again on its own and attracted over 2,500 birds slightly up on last season, birds were released in Sennen Cove last Saturday 18th June at 6.30am in a Lt NW wind. The race was won by P & J Boal from Dromore who have had a top season followed by C & H Beattie from Gilford.

Borough of Ballymena - The first race of the day last weekend was in Sennen Cove where 10 members sent 40 birds won by McAlonan Bros of Glarryford timing at 3.59pm with a velocity of 1047 flying 338 miles with a 2015 Red cock. The partners were best in the Cullybackey Centre and had a great finish of 1st MAC sponsored by Dixon Contractors, 1st Sect B & 17th Open NIPA 402/2586. Last season in the corresponding race W & J Smyth for the Ballymena & Dist had the best bird to finish 1st MAC, 1st Sect B & 16th Open NIPA. Next best this time at 15.45hrs were Stewart Bros of Randalstown followed by Danny Dixon from Dunloy who was best in the Coleraine Centre doing velocity 1024.

Antrim Area update – The Old Bird Classic at the weekend was flown from Sennen Cove with the NIPA birds released at 6.30am with a West NW wind en-route. It turned out a testing day with early arrivals timed before 16.00hrs. Best in the Muckamore Centre was Dessie Thompson recording velocity 1043 while Stewart Bros of Randalstown who timed at 15.45hrs were just behind Tom McAlonan in the Cullybackey Centre.
North West Review - Big well done to Jimmy Hanson with his Campbell and Bigger hen lifting over £400 from yesterdays Sennnn Cove race. Some information on the gutsy wee hen. She has won from Talbenny and Penzance before, and this with a bad wing. Every time Jimmy gets her ready he has to lay her off for a while to recover. When she came yesterday he has to help her to her box and this is the same from most races. She was purchased from Davy Campbell in a batch of youngsters and Davy told Jimmy if you dont win with her pack them in. Jimmy you are a good stock man. Well done.
