PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT - The sale of the late Sean McGrottys stock birds and race team will take place in the Rocking Chair Bar within the next couple of weeks. This is a sale I thought I would never have to arrange - another good fancier taken from us so young in such a tragic way. There will be approx. 50 pigeons for sale consisting of Seans stock and race team. Sean always bought the best and didn’t hesitate to dispose of the duffers regardless of cost. Going through his stock records, I was amazed at the number of ybs that he has given to fanciers over the years - our club winner today from the Mullingar Y.B race is bred down from a pigeon gifted by Sean. All the proceeds will go to Louise and his daughter Rionnagh Ann. I would urge you all to support this sale. Pat McLaughlin.

The local birds in Mid Antrim were released in Mullingar. All Sect B and the Coleraine Area, liberation at 11.00am in a helping South West wind. The Dickey team from Randalstown were 1st in MAC and 1st Open NIPA recording velocity 1596 while McFall & McManus on 1595 were best in Borough of Ballymena. The ever successful partnership took the top spot in the first race of the young bird season with a velocity of 1595 and also 2nd Section. Blair & Rankin were second club and ninth section. Also our member Nicola Gilbert recently took part in a charity cycle for Muscular Dystrophy UK and would like to thank those from the pigeon scene who supported her. The current total is £430 and rising.

Local birds at the weekend were released in Mullingar along with the Mid Antrim Sect B over 2,100 birds were liberated at 11.00am in a helping SW wind. Best birds in the local area were timed by Danny Dixon of Dunloy for 1st & 2nd in Ballymoney with the winner doing velocity 1502. R & J Parke had the top four birds in the Windsor Social and they were best in the Coleraine Triangle doing velocity 1464. In a photo finish the next best bird on the same yard was Howard & McSeveney who were 1st Coleraine Premier HPS.

Antrim Area Update
All the local birds last weekend were in Mullingar for the first of two Area Liberations at the start of the young bird season. Liberation of 2,118 birds was at 11.00am in a helping Southwest wind. The big early bird was timed in Randalstown by the F J & G Dickey partnership who fly to the Ahoghill Road. Their Sticker Donker Blue hen Farmview Buster was timed at 14.44hrs flying 95 miles to record velocity 1596ypm. The loft takes 1st Randalstown, 1st MAC & 1st Open NIPA.
