Bertie Blair best in Ballymena -
For the second week the Mid Antrim birds were released at Mullingar with the Coleraine Area birds, liberation was at the early time of 10.15am in a helping Southwest wind. There were a lot of unfavourable conditions around and although a lot of birds made good time lots of others were late. Every year the subject of Area Liberations come up, a big number don’t bother sending and maybe it’s time we were thinking of having just one liberation for all, on a trial basis. Ballymena just missed the 1st Open place last week this time the best bird was timed by Blair & Rankin at 12.11hrs flying 102 miles for velocity 1550 followed by the top two birds into Harryville for Lexi Mullan and Dennis Craig, both lofts doing velocity 1546. The special Blair training is paying off as it did last week for Charlie McManus. The Blair winner was a Darkness youngster, Red Cheq cock was on its second race. Sire was a son of the Dixon Aviary Cock a top Lambrecht gifted from MDC Magill which has now bred 2 x 1sts while the dam was a Red hen Franz Myers from Paddy McManus. She has now bred 5 x 1st prize-winners with two different cocks.

Antrim Area Update – Area Lib (2)
The local birds were again in Mullingar for the second and last Area Liberation, next week all birds will be released in Tullamore. Liberation in Mullingar was at the early time of 10.15am in a helping south west wind. Locally the best birds were in Kells & District with Jeff Surgenor 1st & 2nd followed by two birds for Gregg Bros. Thompson Bros had the top two birds in Crumlin & Dist, A & J Steele had the top two in Muckamore and Stewart Bros beat the previous weeks winners F & J & G Dickey in Randalstown. There were a lot of late birds in the Antrim Area this race, it should be different next week. Maybe time to make change to the Area Lib, they could be mid-week.
North West Review – For the second week the big entry of Coleraine Area birds were released with Mid Antrim Sect B birds in the second Area Lib from Mullingar. Some good loft results in the local area including Hanson & Harpur with the top four birds in Coleraine. Davy Devenney was 1st in both Ballymoney and Dervock, and Trevor Scott & Son had 1st Windsor Social and winner of the £20 pools. Well done to Jimmy Hanson taking top four places in Coleraine Premier HPS from Mullingar and a big velocity as well. Jimmy also wins club pools of £40, Leslie Madden wins first cut of Ring Nom of £61.20. Old Hand Anthony McDonnell wins second cut of £40.80.
