The return to Penzance was far from the great success we had expected, fantastic racing all year and then it all came crashing down. No sun on the basket was always a big problem and at the home end the expected clearance of bad weather was a lot slower and the poor conditions remained until darkness fell. Add to that a strong North West wind and a not perfect liberation and everything is set for the difficult race a lot were looking for.

Hard to put a figure on returns probably around one third the average for those who got, many others failed to time. Very few winning velocities exceed 1000ypm, most of the results were a lot easier to collate. Just a few weeks back we waited in Talbenny for better conditions and had a successful race on the Monday, maybe waiting again would have been the better decision. It’s done and dusted and fanciers will just have to pick themselves up, one of the joys of pigeon racing.

This latest race will not help the remainder of the programme, especially the Yearling Nat for Cocks & Hens which had been moved to the end of season date to give us racing in Ireland when the main convoy was in France. We will see just how it all works out, I have a feeling a lot of lofts will be looking forward to the young birds.

The UK Agent for the Benzing G2 will visit Northern Ireland again attending Hillfoot Clubrooms on Thursday 2nd July for a demo and to deliver and take any orders. On Friday all the Irish organizations will be in St Malo for the Old Bird Nat/Derby a three day event. IHU lofts will be joined by the Irish SR Fed all competing for the famous Millar Gold Cup. One week later the cream of the fancy in Ireland will compete from Plaudren (Vannes) for the Blue Riband Kings Cup (Code 5085). Don’t forget Farming Life on Wednesday for results.
