2016 AGM Report -

The Irish South Road Federation (ISRF) was formed in 1968 and currently has approximately 800 racing members/partnerships in over thirty clubs. The federation covers an area from Wicklow to Monaghan, with the majority of the members located in the Dublin region The weekly races have approx 8,000 to 14,000 birds competing in the inland races, and 2000 to 4000 approx birds competing in the six channel races. Depending on where the birds cross, they will fly between 60 and 100 miles approximately from England (the Irish Channel) and over 600 miles from France (St Malo) to Dublin. The ISRF has four 40 foot transporters with a carrying capacity of nearly 17,000 birds at 20 birds per crate. For all the latest News and Results on the Federation click here.

Post by willie reynolds »

The summary of minutes of the 2016 AGM are below

MINUTES OF THE IRISH SOUTH ROAD FEDERATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2016.
was held on Sunday 8 th January 2017 at 10.30am in the Clann na Gael g.a.a club Sean Moore road Ringsend Dublin 4.
MEMBERS PRESENT 147
A minutes silence was called for the deceased members by the chairman.
1 A summary of the 2015 minutes was given out to all the members that were present and they were passed.
2. PRESIDENT’S/CHAIRMANS REPORT, Henry Byrne
Last year was a very good year for the federation in particular the channel racing the members had good returns.
There was a few difficult race but generally the racing was very good.
Finances of the federation are very good
The transporters are still costing money with up grades
Secretary and treasurer did a great job last year.

Apology from Jimmy Roberts (transporter manager) due to a death of his father (J Roberts) also a member of the ISRF and raced the birds for year .
Jimmy Roberts is still prepared to go forward as transporter managers in 2017.

3. SECRETARY’S REPORT Michael Roche
I want to thank the ISRF committee, the treasurer the chairman and the club secretaries for all their help in 2016.
I want to thank the conveyors & in particular the liberator (Henry Byrne )of the pigeons for the excellent job they did for you and ISRF this year.
The system of recruiting the conveyors seems to be still working well so far.
This was my second year as secretary and as far as I know I did not make any major mistakes this year but if I did they were not intentional and I hope I can improve on that in the further.
As much information was given to the ISRF members as possible through the year.
The I S R F official web site http://www.isrf.ie
Has the
ISRF race program and calendar,
Up dated rules,
Weekly federation results which are up dated every week.
List of clubs in ISRF
Contacts
Weather
INFO about the ISRF
Minutes of the ISRF committee meeting during the year
IHU 2016 ring lists
Videos of the liberation sites were put on the web site when required
A contact e mail on the web info@isrf.ie
And phone number of the committee

The ISRF weekly running averages and averages were displayed this year for the first time on the ISRF web site in 2016..
A system of texting the full members every week was continued this year 25000 approx texts were sent out in 2016 informing the members when the birds were out. As far as i know most fanciers are still happy with the texts.
The top 6 of each club results in the ISRF competing in the ISRF open races was text to the fed sectary for the first time on the day of the open races and as a result a more accurate result of the top 50 was text to the club secretaries on the day of the each open ISRF race.
A hard copy of the weekly fed results was giver out at the transporters each week.
The open races were completed with pools most weeks and a hard copy was also given out at the transporters.
The committee meetings were kept to minimum, this year 4 committee meetings this year concerning the general operations of the ISRF.
The Treasure has given a breakdown of the open races this year again.
As fare as i know everything that was needed to be done was done by me as secretary.

LOOKING FORWARD TO 2017
RESULTS
All going well it is proposed in 2017 to publish on the ISRF web site with the aid of the pigeonlink.com
on a weekly bases
The ISRF
section results
Weekly running averages for each section
Running averages for each club in the ISRF
So each members will be able to check his running averages every week in the ISRF results , section, and his club races on the ISRF web site.
It is also proposed to update the section diplomas with the members and birds competing in each section on a weekly bases.
To achieve this it will be necessary to tell all clubs that any club that does not furnish the weekly members and birds competing in their club race will not be accepted for the fed result.
Finances of the ISRF.
The main income for the federation is through the members ISRF fees and the bird age.
Prize money is approx 35000 euro a year.
The membership is falling we lost 50 members last year so a other source of income may be an idea eg ( a yearly ISRF auction ) to subsidise the open races.
I wish the members and the ISRF committee the best in the coming season 2017.

4. TREASURER’S REPORT Willie Butler
Thank the secretaries and treasurers for their help over the years and had no real problem with any one and I like to thank the auditors for their assistance.
The loss of members every year means we have to be very careful in how we spend money in the ISRF.
Looking at what is happing in the sport regarding the membership of other federations we are doing reasonably well.

5. TRANSPORT MANAGER’S REPORT
The year went well this year and he wanted to thank G Daley for all the work he do and helping him every week.
6. LIBERATOR’S REPORT
We had a good season on the channel and up the land and with a bit of luck with the weather hopefully we have a good year in 2017.
7. AUDITORS’ REPORT E Fitzgerald, P Fagan,
The federation is going well compared to last year.
The cost of the open races is spending most of the ISRF member’s fees this year.
We lost 50 members this year and our membership is worrying and we had a Extra Penzance race also.
The new fans cost 10,000 euro and was the best investment we ever did . I was in Pilmore Beach race point and you could not smell the birds in the transporters due to the air being pushed through the transporters by the fans.
It is nice to have money to cover any big expenditure the fed might have to pay for.
The federation need 60,000 euro of a float in my opinion.
There is always a possibility of the federation needing a new trailer if something happened to any of the existing ones.
E Fitzgerald went through the one of expenditures foe 2016 which came to 20,000 approx.
E F said the treasurer did a excellent job this year after having a difficult year last year with the loss of this wife.
E F wished the members well for the new year.
8 Pro 2016 J O Brien Clondalkin.
The chairman said John did a great job in 2016 and was on the radio also about the racing pigeons.
J O Brien
The more people that promote the sport the better.
He felt there is a lot of stuff going on in the pigeon sport that young members are not interested in.
He felt there was a biased with some people against pigeons
He felt if you don’t have anything good to say about pigeons then don’t say anything.
A new approach was needed he felt to encourage non fanciers to take up the sport of racing pigeons to prevent the sport dying out over the next few years.

9 BALANCE SHEET
A discussion took place on drug testing
It was stated that the South African testers was the only one that got positive test
It was also said the South African testers was not prepared to stand over the case in the North Ireland ?
It was also pointed out that the members were paying 10 euro in their fees to pay for drug testing
A query regarding the doe expenditure was raised
