Maiden City Presentation 17/11/17 -

Post by willie reynolds »

The Maiden City club held its annual presentation recently in the Derry City Social Club, with Bob Freeman as guest of honour. Bob, who is the hard working secretary of the Londonderry RPS, was accompanied by fellow club member and Section H committee man Derek Simpson.

First to the table was the partnership of S Quigley, Son & Grandson winning 1st Mullingar Y.B, followed by Tony Rodgers taking 2sd Mullingar Y.B. Next up Coyle Bros for Fermoy 5 Bird Y.B, then Niall Cassidy taking 2sd Fermoy Y.B. Billy Ogilvie won Fermoy 5 Bird O.B, with T, A & D Morrison winning Tullamore and Roscrea Y.B races.

Up next was Robert Lyle who topped 3rd Fermoy O.B and Rosscarbery Y.B National followed by Concannon Bros winning Bude O.B and Talbenny Y.B National. Frankie Ramsay claims the Top Y.B flyer trophy winning Gowran Park, Fermoy and Roscrea Y.B races while the Burndennett loft of McGettigan Bros enjoyed a good season winning Tullamore O.B, Gowran Park O.B, Corrin O.B, Penzance O.B and the Longest Flown Race Trophy.

Next up were Roy & Gary Martin maintaining their consistent form through-out the season winning 5 O.B races including Mullingar, Gowran Park, Corrin, Fermoy & Rosscarbery National.

Top old bird flyer and overall highest prize-winner goes to club sec Pat Mc Laughlin whose wins included the two Talbennys, Penzance Classic and both Yearling Cocks & Hens Nationals. This loft also lifted the Sean Mc Grotty National Trophy as well as the Channel Averages.

Unfortunately the occasion was overshadowed by the news that club member Tony Morrison was unable to attend due to illness. Sadly Tony passed away just two days later. The members of the club, and the local pigeon fraternity, extend their sympathy to Tony's wife and wider family, especially to David and Andy with whom he flew in partnership.
