“Christine” wins Talbenny Nat for Geoff Surgenor of Kells -

The Premier Young Bird Nat for the NIPA was flown on Sunday, the race was delayed due to poor weather conditions and after a testing season for the youngsters the overall entry was well down on seasons previous. Liberation was at 9.35am in a Westerly wind and although the big early arrivals were on time at clock checking in the various Centres many birds were still missing. In Mid Antrim the big early arrival was timed by Geoff Surgenor in Kells, it was thought he might be well placed and when the result was produced at tea time on Monday Surgenor Bros did indeed win 1st Open NIPA. He has named his winning Blue hen “Christine” after the wife of Davy Jackson from whom he got the Van Loon parents, which in turn were bred by Pete Norton.
