The final NIPA race of the 2018 season to remember was flown from Rosscarbery in County Cork on Sunday 23rd September, birds were released at 9.30am in a North West wind with showers forecast for the route. It turned out a hard fly and most lofts had birds missing at night, well done to all those that recorded arrivals and to the top winners including N Edgar & Son of Dromara winning 1st Open NIPA.

Robert Service and son Robin had a great end to the seasons racing winning a tough Rosscarberry National. They timed 6 from their 8 entries and had the top two positions in Ballymena & District. The winning Blue cock feeding a 12 day old youngster was timed at 16.36hrs flying 253 miles. The sire won Rosscarberry cocks National in to Harryville club in 2016 and is a brother to their good 5 x 1st Soontjen x Frans Zwols cock. The dam is off the sire of the good 5 x 1st cock, when paired to a Soontjen hen from Allen McBride of Harryville.

Final YB National races delayed -

Unfavourable conditions again last weekend delayed the final two Young Bird Nationals from County Cork. Birds were race marked on Saturday and then moved to the race point, NIPA to Rosscarbery and the Irish Nat FC to Skibbereen. It had been intended both races would be flown on Monday but with improved conditions the strings were cut on Sunday 23rd September. The NIPA released in Rosscarbery at 9.30am in a North West wind, it was reported the birds cleared well. The INFC released on Monday morning as planned in Skibbereen. Ensure all claims for awards are made ASAP, including INFC, NIPA, Irish Region and Mid Antrim Combine.

In Mid Antrim the best local bird was timed by Gregg Bros of Kells & District, the Willy Jacobs bird was timed at 16.13hrs flying 253 miles to record velocity 1104, nine minutes clear in the Cullybackey Centre. They look good for the 1st Sect B Diploma, Danny Dixon had the best two birds in the Coleraine Centre 1094 and 1084 and Thompson Bros of Crumlin were best in the Muckamore Centre doing velocity 1093.

No sooner has the racing finished we will shortly move into the presentation season and the many meetings that will make decisions about the new season racing in 2019. The RPRA (Irish Region) are always first away and a meeting of the Appeals Committee has been arranged for Saturday 6th October in the Templeton Hotel in Templepatrick at 1.30pm sharp. The Agenda will include: Selection of Award winners for 2018 season. (a) 0-250 Miles. (b) 251-450 Miles. (c) Over 450 Miles. (d) Best Single Bird Performance, Old Birds or Young Birds. (e) Young Fanciers over 8 years but under 16 years on 1st January for any of the above awards. (who are competing in races in their own right). Age to be stated on application. (f) Best Single Bird Performance Talbenny (2) & Penzance, Claims from Club Secretaries for this award, winners will be listed in each NIPA Section. All claims must be made by 1st October (no exception).
