Talbenny & Skibb Derbies - 09/09/18

BUSY DERBY WEEKEND FOR COMBINE

The weekend of 8th /9th September became one of the busiest for competing members of the East Down Combine as both the Talbenny and Skibbereen Young Derbies were being flown plus because of unfavourable weather conditions earlier in that week the INFC Penzance Grand National Young Bird race had also been postponed until the week end and added to that was the fact that Saturday’s weather was unsuitable for any racing so all three races took place on the Sunday ,and credit to all officials for the work they had to put into reorganising all of this so that all races could and were able to be run smoothly .First away were the Penzance National birds at 7.45am into a light SW wind followed at 9.30am by the EDC Skibbereen Derby birds into a WSW wind with the EDC Talbenny Derby birds away at 9.35am into a W Wind so there is a lot of news in all of this .

First of all many congratulations to Downpatrick Premier members Telford Bros & S & J Milligan on winning the INFC National Penzance on 1249 ypm , Harper & Young of Cloughey on winning Skibbereen on 1863 ypm and W Hardy & son (Annsborough) on winning Talbenny on 1158 ypm . This week I have the results in the various competing combine clubs in the two Derby races etc and will add further detail next week plus the final Combine race of the Season again from Skibbereen this being the Ken McConaghie Derby ,scheduled for Saturday Sept 15th

So starting with Skibbereen Derby and with the WSW wind the leading velocities were well over the mile a minute with the top three in the Open being ;
1 Harper & Young (Cloughey)
2 R Connolly ( Downpatrick Premier )
3 J & R Young (Portavogie )
These three were also the top three in the East Section . Top three in the West section were :

1 P & C McComb ( Killyleagh Central )
2 McCartan & Woodsides (Crossgar )
3 Cowan & McCartney ( Dundonald)

MARK FOULIS IS 2018 FANCIER OF THE YEAR

With the racing season now over the winners are now looking forward to receiving their awards at the forthcoming prize nights and in the Combine , The Fancier of the Year is one of the top awards and this year it has been won by Dundonald fancier Mark Foulis with 1490 points and he is also West Section Fancier of the Year with Dominic and Doley Croskery winning East Section Fanciers of the year . FANTASTIC NATIONAL WIN FOR NEWLY FORMED PARTNERSHIP

The newly formed partnership of the lofts of Telford Bros & Sean & Jennifer Milligan of the Downpatrick Premier club had a super win when they won the INFC Penzance YB National ,1st open 1st North Section and were 1st East Down Combine on a winning velocity of 1249 on a day which saw a mixture of weather on route across the Irish Sea.
The Winning pigeon was sent to Penzance along with his hen and they were sitting fourteen days on eggs .The cock was the winner and his hen was 42nd Open 24th North Sect and the team had a third pigeon also timed to win 198th Open 122nd North Section .
The winning pigeon is a Busschaert now named ‘The New Mr Busschaert ’ was bred by Dicky Quinn from Shrigley Co.Down. and was bought at a breeder buyer sale at the Killyleagh & District club .Many congratulations to the partnership on their outstanding result .
