Coleraine Premier 2018 -

Post by willie reynolds »

Coleraine Premier HPS – Always been the Big Club in the far flying North West, at the formation of the Mighty NIPA they were one of the 15 member clubs, represented at that meeting by Paddy Molloy. I see on the club page of Facebook that former Kings Cup winner Anthony McDonnell will be 70 years a member of the club this October. An ace racer over many years, at one time he was almost unbeatable and won the Sect A Fancier of the Year on many occasions. His Kings Cup result is in the records and will never be forgot, “Champion Bann King” won 1st Open INFC from Les Sables flying 633 miles in 1963 and up to the present time remains the longest flying winner. The bird was later purchased by Louella Pigeon World. I had a letter from a Mr Orr regarding the photo I had published a few weeks back of the late Jack Patience when I said he was the only winner of 1st & 2nd in the Kings Cup, that was in 1995 from Rennes. The INFC as we know it today was formed in 1947 the year I was born, and the first winner of the new King George V Challenge Cup in 1948 was Sammy Robinson of Belfast 1st Open Rennes doing velocity 515. Since that time Jack Patience as far as I know is the only 1st & 2nd Open INFC winner in the new Kings Cup. Before 1948 local fanciers flew in the old Ulster Combine and the famous A E Robinson from Shaws Bridge in Belfast was 1st & 2nd Open in what was called the Kings Cup, on two separate occasions. In 1933 from Les Sables at 600 miles the winner doing velocity 848 and then in 1937 from Redon at 500 miles his winner was doing velocity 706. A E Robinson was the owner of Belfast’s largest departmental store at that time. Sam Mayberry from Antrim was 1st & 2nd Open in 1946 from Guernsey (Channel Islands), I have no record of this loft and would appreciate any news or paper cuttings of this fantastic result. Maurice Alexander from Ballymena done a massive research of the Kings Cup races and this special section on the INFC History is available on our website for those with computer and the internet.

Now on club news a lot of the local clubs including Coleraine Premier have a site on Facebook to list results, news and photos, something that all clubs should be considering to be used for publicity.
