GORDON BROS TAKE 1ST & 2ND OPEN FROM TULLAMORE 2

The East Down Combine were back in Tullamore for the 2nd race of the season from there on Saturday April 20th and it turned out to be a beautiful day for a race once the mist and fog burnt off and with what little wind there was being light and variable the birds enjoyed a beautiful fly home .Liberated at 11.30 am it was Gordon Bros & sons who were this week’s Open winners through their entry with the Killyleagh Central club and then to follow this up they were 2nd open through their first bird with the Cloughey club and then to complete a fabulous result had a further 18 birds in the open result and took all but 4 places in the East Section result . Niall has kindly furnished me with information on the winning birds . 1st and 2nd open were two hens

Both hens are Leo Heremans bloodlines, both 2year old raced on roundabout. The hen that won 1st open is a really consistent hen, previously winning 11th open Thurles 2729 birds and 28th open NIPA Fermoy. The hen that wins 2nd open, has previously won 3rd Open, beaten by loft mates, & 23rd Open and 36th Open .

The cock that won 12th Open is one of their top racing cocks, having previously won :
1st Section 3rd Open Mallow 4255 birds
4th Section 10th Open NIPA Tullamore 22129 birds
13th Section 13th Open Thurles 1454 birds beaten by 12 loftmates
21st Open Thurles 5194 birds
21st Open Mallow 3976 birds
10th Section 29th Open Skibbereen 1178 birds
5th Section 3545 birds 24th Open Tullamore 5378 birds
79th Open NIPA Fermoy 5495 birds
13th Section 1307 Mullingar
10th Open Mallow classic 541 birds

The top two birds were both East Section birds with the next two in the Open taking 1st & 2nd West section 3rd & 4th Open for the Ballynahinch partnership of Cromie & Magee & son and it was then back to Killyleagh Central for 5th open to P & C McComb and the first nominated bird with the next two to Philip McCullough & dtr at 6th & 7th open with the first of these also nominated .
