Gregory is best in the NIPA Sect H, he also had 1st Sect last week with a hen that has now won 5 x 1sts. Congratulations to Gregory Kearney on winning Limavady HS club yesterday from Gowran Park flying time 2hr and 38 mins velocity 1858. Obviously this would have topped Section H as well but there was a power failure in the club house and the result wasn’t in before the deadline. Desperately unlucky for Gregory but nevertheless great flying and hopefully will be restored as the winner. Two hens that were half-sisters, 1st Sect Fermoy and 1st Sect Gowran Park on successive weeks, breeding Lambrecht x Herman Ceusters.

I am sure all fanciers would join Paul Howard and team in wishing Gerry O’Neil of Cork City a very happy 85th birthday, Gerry has been helping all organisations with contacts for liberation site for many years, indeed his first memories of helping NIPA are back in 1957 of loading grates from the trains in Cork City with the then convoyer Billy McCuggage, long time ago.
Mid Antrim Combine topped by Harry Boyd -
Last weekend the Mid Antrim birds were competing from Gowran Park, a late replacement for Talbenny which was ruled out due to very unfavourable weather conditions. Race marking was delayed until Saturday afternoon and the birds were transported to Gowran Park, released on Sunday at 10.15am in a helping South SW wind. A quick race was the order of the day, most birds home in little time from the approx. 160 miles into Mid Antrim. Best birds locally were timed by Harry Boyd in Kells, Roy Clements from Harryville was best in town and Bertie Blair won 1st in Ballymena & District. Members will need to keep a check on the arrangements for this weekend, we are due in Talbenny and also due to have the 5 Bird Championship from Fermoy. Birds for this will be race marked as normal in the local club with the 5Bird clocks returned to Ahoghill Centre.
The NIPA were due last week to have a race from Talbenny in South Wales, the first cross channel race of the old bird season. This was ruled out early with very difficult weather conditions which were also causing problems at the Isle of Man TT event. It was hoped to put on a race in Ireland and the committee made the decision to race mark Saturday for a possible liberation the next day. It all worked out well and with a break in conditions the NIPA released on Sunday at Gowran Park racecourse in Kilkenny at 10.15am in a helping South SW wind. The birds romped home from 155 miles and the best birds were timed in Kells & District with Harry Boyd winning his third race of the year and taking 1st & 2nd in the NIPA Section B.
