It seems that every organisation in Ireland experienced very big losses racing at the weekend, and that included the NIPA who for the second week had a series of Area Liberations. I don’t think they have been a total success over the many years we have had them and a lot would revert back to a mass release from week one. Area Liberations could be flown prior to the start of the official programme and each local area decided their own training prior to the official start and get all the help required. Almost everything has been tried and NIPA for one, are considering what to do for the third race this weekend. The start of the young bird season is a big problem, has been for years, so some discussion needs to take place to see how things can be improved. I always supported the Area Liberations to kick-off the young bird season, mow I am not so sure. The best way might be for local areas to sort their own training, with help and support, and prepare for a young bird programme which starts and continues with mass liberations.

Well this week was the 2nd Area lib for section H, the Strabane club has been very hard to win this year with a lot of different winners every week. This week's winner from an entry of 244 birds is John White with his first ever win in the sport. John is in pigeons just 2 years and has become a great club member helping out with the ETS duties at race marking, I can easily say there will be more winners clocked by this man in the near future. The sire of his pigeon is a gift pigeon from Raymond McBride which came from Campbell & Bigger and the dam was bred by Gerard McAuley. Both john and and snoogy had 3 in the top 10 well done. John finished 9th Section as well, very well done. Last week 8/121 the Strabane birds were with Sect H in Mullingar for the 1st young bird race of the season and it turned out tricky for some. Snoogy Devines hard work paid off with his training to take the first two positions in the club and great returns 12/13. His 1st pigeon was bred from 2 pigeons which he got from Samuel Larkham this past winter and his 2nd pigeon came from his collection of Van Reets. Well done David.

Club runners up 6 year old Sophie and 4 year old Abigail McCormick win their first ever prize timing at 11.49am for 126 miles to their Ballykeel Lofts.

Last weekend the NIPA Sect B birds were included in the big Area Liberation from Tullamore over 7,000 birds were released at 9.15am. Fleming Bros in Crumlin & District had three early birds and topped the NIPA Open doing velocity 1536. Locally the best bird was timed in Broughshane by T & M Morrow doing velocity 1503, this one was followed by Jimmy Rock of the Harryville HPS, best bird in Ballymena.

The second young bird race from Tullamore saw T & M Morrow (Marcus and his late father Tommy) of Broughshane & District win 1st in the Mid Antrim Combine and 31st Open NIPA 7143 birds. Their dark chequer hen was timed at 11:41 for the 125 miles to their lofts just off the Doagh Road in Kells. Breeding is Van Den Brande x Vandenebele from good friends Gary Gibson and Davy Scott. Marcus has had a lot of success with this line of birds.
