Roscrea Comeback - 31/08/19

The comeback race from Roscrea was arranged for the same weekend as Talbenny, alought the YB National was delayed due to poor weather the Roscrea birds were race marked Friday and released on Saturday 31st August at 10.30am in a westerly wind. The race was dominated by the Coastal Sect F and a fantastic result for Gordon Bros & Son of Killyleagh Central who not only won 1st Open NIPA doing velocity 1733, had 27 birds in the Top 30.

Foyle RPS 4 sent 36 collectively – Paul Maxwell 1120, 1120, 853. Well done today to Mr Maxwell showing the other 2 members from the Foyle the way home to take the first 4 positions and lifting the nom prize. Also congratulations to Devine and Harpur on clocking 9 from 9 and I believe sent with us to give them a chance to win their club averages. Another tough fly today for the Nor/west youngsters, yet despite the conditions another close finish with the Steelstown loft of Robert Lyle claiming the top spot, very well done Robert.

Well what can we say about this man when it comes to young bird racing he is in the fold every week and with his birds being very well schooled and as healthy as trout’s. David puts a lot of time into training young birds before the racing starts with no mercy. This young bird season has been very tough for most people and returns not been great to say the least, David sent 9 this week and got 9 home which is a great fly up into the North West of Ireland Well done.

The sire was from his good Vermeerbergen pair from Keith Kernohan while the dam was a direct Soontjen from Ray Forbes.

This little hen was bred from a stock pair we bought from our club mate Keith Allister, we have two happy boys tonight.

Seven Towers Championship Update -

The latest race tt take place from the NIPA was the Roscrea Comeback, due to be the same day as Talbenny which has been put back due to unfavourable weather until Monday. The pigeons were liberated at 10.30am into a West NW wind, the race was maybe quicker than some people had thought it would be. The leading loft this week is Robert Wylie of Broughshane with a velocity of 1538.987. Congratulations and well done to all in the result.

A super days flying from an excellent fancier over the years taking eight positions in the Top 20 including 1st, 2nd & 3rd Combine. First bird a blue pied hen was clocked at 1:17 hrs for the 145 miles to the lofts on the Old Antrim Road. She was placed 5th club and 10th Combine last week from Fermoy. The sire is from his good Vermeerbergen pair from club-mate Keith Kernohan and the dam is a direct soontjen from Ray Forbes. The second bird clocked was a gay blue pied hen, sire is a brother to the first bird Vermeerbergen x Forbes Soontjen and dam is from a cock of the Forbes Soontjen x Keith Kernohan's Vermeerbergen hen. Alan Steele 1st Sect B from Fermoy –

Best bird in the weekend race from Fermoy was timed by Alan Steele of the Muckamore HPS and for the former member in Kells & Dist it was the first time the loft topped the NIPA Section B. The winner was tiomed at 2.00pm after the 10.15am liberation, the loft records velocity 1517 for the 194 miles to Steeple Road. The bird was bred from stock supplied by David Currell of Glenarm, the sire was Soontjen x Herman Ceusters the loft finished 2nd Sect earlier with another young bird bred from a pair from David Currell. From Fermoy (2) Alan finished 1st Sect B & 21st Open NIPA with almost 13,000 birds competing.

NIPA Sect B Fermoy (2) 73/1732 – Alan Steele Muckamore 1517, Surgenor Bros Kells & District 1512, K & K Kernohan Harryville 1512, Glen Magill Muckamore 1507, J Rock Harryville 1504, Fleming Bros Crumlin 1503, Blair & Rankin Ballymena 1500, R H Clements Harryville 1500, J Rock Harryville 1498, Fleming Bros Crumlin 1497.

Best in the Mid Antrim Combine and also 2nd Section B are Surgenor Bros of Kells & Dist. Geoff clocked his blue hen at 14.09hrs for the 201 mile fly to record velocity 1512ypm. This hen was placed 2nd club beaten by a loft-mate, 3rd Combine and 4th section B from Gowran Park a couple of weeks earlier. Breeding is Van Loon and is bred from Derek Parr stock through club-mate and good friend Davy Jackson. It's Geoff's second Combine win in the young bird season and his third in total having topped the Combine from Fermoy old birds. Excellent racing from a top fancier.
