Corrin was the penultimate race of the NIPA young bird season, was changed at the last minute from Castletown but not much difference in the miles. The 5 Bird Championship was also in duplicate, and the total entry of just over 5,000 birds, were released at 10.00am in a light Northwest wind. The winning birds took longer than expected and at clock checking a number of birds were still missing. Not a perfect finish but the winners will be happy enough, Owen Markey from Ballyholland in Newry won 1st Open NIPA and Spence Bros from Lisburn & District beat R & J Conlane of Kingswood in a photo finish in the 5 Bird.

Obituary – I got the sad news during a very busy Friday that Owen Donnelly from Larne had passed away in the Belfast City Hospital after a period of illness, an icon of the pigeon sport in the East Antrim area he has been ever present since I became involved in the sport. Very highly respected he served for many years on the NIPA Committee, had a term as President, and then over recent seasons had been installed as a Life Vice President. Larne in County Antrim was his base and he had a Butchers Shop in the town and was Mr Pigeons looking after all aspects of the sport and especially in the Larne & District HPS which was his pride and joy. I had attended the club presentation on many occasions going back many years and was a regular visitor to their Monster Show, Owen always had everything under control and he will be sadly missed. To wife Nancy and the extended family circle sincere condolences at this very sad time, I will always remember my friendship with Owen and his reports from Larne & District Willie Reynolds HOMER.

His winner timed at 15.22hrs for the 215 miles was his good red chequer hen. She is bred from two direct Gert Heylen birds and a couple of weeks earlier won 1st Club, 1st Mid Antrim Combine & 105th North Section from Skibbereen young bird National 266 miles.

Seven Towers Championship Update - This week saw the NIPA race from Corrin, the birds where liberated at 10.00am into a light Northwest wind, the day turned into a more awkward day than people thought with the birds arriving later than expected, the leading loft this week is K & K Kernohan of Harryville H.P.S with a flying time of 5:09:41 and a velocity of 1183.050, Not only did this pigeon win Harryville and the Seven Towers Championship it finished 42nd Open NIPA 5071 birds and 2nd Section B 565 birds. Excellent flying on a hard day. Congratulations to K & K Kernohan and a huge well done to all who feature in this week’s result.

Seven Towers Championship Update - This week also saw the NIPA race from Corrin for the five bird Championship, as this race was also in conjunction with the ordinary Corrin it was the same conditions, the birds where liberated at 10AM into a light North west wind. The leading loft this week Again belonged to K & k Kernohan of Harryville H.P.S, flying the 208 miles in 5:26:40 recording a velocity of 1121.544. Not only did this pigeon win Harryville for the five bird and the Seven towers Championship five bird it finished 64th open 1045 birds and 2nd section 148 birds. Excellent flying to be in the top 100 in both races and to finish 2nd section in both races. Congratulations to K & K Kernohan and to all who placed in this week’s result.
