Ahoghill Centre 2019 Season -

The NIPA was founded in 1945 and it's membership was open to all members within Northern Ireland - We are one of the largest weekly convoying organisations in the UK. Presently we have approx. 100 clubs as members, with over 2,000 members. Birds competing each week can reach 25 to 30 thousand, depending on the race. The race programme starts in Ireland down to Rosscarbery and continues through Wales & England to Penzance, and the Premier OB Nat flown from St Malo (France).

Ahoghill Centre 2019 Season -

Post by willie reynolds »

With the start of the racing delayed till goodness knows when this week I will look back at the major NIPA races flown in 2019, in a year when the marking station was changed to Ahoghill with Jackie Steele from Rasharkin acting as Centre Manager. It turned out a season to remember with local members doing very well in the two big races of the year. Mr & Mrs Sempey from Cullybackey timing on the second morning came very close in the Old Bird Nat from St Malo in France finishing 2nd Open NIPA while Bertie Blair timed the big early arrival in the Young Bird Nat from Talbenny in South Wales and finished 1st Open NIPA. Blair & Rankin emerged as Top Prize-winners in Ballymena & District and less happy news from Cullybackey with Mr & Mrs Sempey having to leave the sport on doctor’s orders. Davy Jackson from Kells & District had a dream season especially cross channel and won the RPRA Sect B Merit Award Meritorious performance. All the help at the Ahoghill Centre from many dedicated members was much appreciated over numerous days at both marking and race checking.

Over the next number of weeks I hope to feature a number of lofts a start having been made with Jimmy Rock of Harryville, I can send out a questionnaire to those interested that had some super results worthy of coverage. I will also be running a lot of old photos and a bit of history, can’t forget about that. I have enough to cover the next fortnight, any lofts looking featured or any top prizes that have been missed send on the details, I would be thinking there will be plenty of time and space before racing starts. Well done to the various newspapers who continue to publish despite the problems at present time. With members now having a lot of spare time at hand it is an opportunity to browse through the website http://www.pigeonnetwork.com where several items are placed in the Forum. Those interested in the INFC History there is a dedicated page for that with a link on the Front Page, items and updates are being added weekly. Link to The Forum is on the Front Page as well.

During the week the following message was placed from the NIPA Secretary Fred Russell. Training of the pigeons up the road is not permitted and anyone doing so must stop immediately, spend the time flying the birds around the house. Members will get good notice regarding future arrangements.
