After the delay due to the shutdown the first race was flown on Monday 8th June having had the restrictions on training lifted a fortnight earlier. It was an eventful weekend of weather having had sunshine and no rain for the best part of 8 weeks. After consideration the liberation committee set Monday as the best day to start. Well done to every single club who race marked Sunday with a small team all observing the rules and regulations of the agreed protocol. The NIPA released in Tullamore at 11.45am in full sunshine in a light North wind and the birds cleared very well.

It was all Newry for the top places with all time champion Ronnie Williamson of Newry & Dist just ahead of Donnelly Bros Newry City both former Fanciers of the Year followed by another top loft that of Owen Markey 1st in Ballyholland. Ronnie Williamson has now 72 NIPA 1st Open Diplomas, 5 INFC 1st Nationals and 51 RPRA awards, outstanding for many years. Congratulations as well to my good friends P & J Boal of Dromore they have just scored 60 x 1sts in the NIPA Section D. As usual we wish to feature all 1st Section winners especially, although other 1st Club winners are invited to supply photos as well. These will be published as space permits.

They timed their winning 3 year old blue chequer pied hen at 14.21pm for the 126 mile fly to the Cullybackey Road lofts. The hen has had many prizes including being beat by a loft-mate for 1st last season. She is a Lambrecht from Jackie Steele of Rasharkin and contains the best of his bloodlines. The sire is one of his best stock cocks and is sire of Bertie Blair’s Mullingar NIPA open winner. He is also sire to Jackies own "Isla" winner of 3 x 1st Section B 2018. The dam is a sister to his super pigeon Champion "02".

The former Talbenny YB National and Penzance OB Classic winner timed his yearling blue chequer cock at 14.20pm from the 126 mile race to his lofts in Albert Place in the centre of Ballymena town. This cock was sitting 6 days on his first eggs of the season. The sire a Manderlartz cock from club-mate Lexi Mullan was a winner of 3 x 1st. The dam a Soontjen hen from club-mate Allen McBride was a winner of 1st Section B and 3rd Open NIPA Tallbenny and also 1st Club Rosscarbery.
