Mark Foulis Tops Combine from Skibbereen Derby

Saturday the 19th of September saw East Down Members competing in the final race of the 2020 season ,the Derby race from Skibbereen and a steady race was on the cards with a NE wind blowing on the Birds on there 200 plus miles race from the SW corner of Ireland . The winner this year and no stranger to success from this race point was Mark Foulis of Dundonald the winner recording a velocity of 1246ypm . Mark’s winner was followed by the lofts which have featured regularly throughout this Young Bird season with Jack Hogg of Newtownbreda club having the next three then it was three for Gordon Bros & Sons of Cloughey followed by two more names from the Cloughey club C & H Cully and Harper & Young with Jack Hogg completing the top 12 with three more together . Well that concludes racing for the 2020 season , a season in many ways different from any other I have experienced in my 60 or so years of involvement with the sport . Under normal circumstances we would now be approaching the racing off season with its Shows ,Dinners and Meetings which at present are not allowed so I hope to feature some little articles over the winter season on some of this year’s top winners .
