Last week the NIPA race committee because of a poor weather weekend forecast decided to race mark Thursday and fly the race from Gowran Park in County Kilkenny on Friday. Over 25,600 birds were released at 10.00am in blue skies and no wind and in helping conditions made good time on the journey back home. Best of the lot was in Armagh HPS where G & A Campbell had the Card of the Day to take 1st & 2nd in Section E and 1st & 2nd Open in the NIPA with a winning velocity of 1569. Next best were Cormac O’Hare & Daughter also with a super card with FIVE birds in the Top 10, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th Open NIPA. Today’s race which was kindly sponsored by Blue Devil Lofts in Coalisland as part of our 75th Anniversary celebrations.
The pigeon that won 1st Open & 1 Section E was a Blue Cheq yearling hen , she is a granddaughter of Neiuwe Olympiad . The pigeon that was 2nd Open & 2 Section E is also a Blue Cheq yearling hen, she is a granddaughter of Vale Jackpot . Both these hens are bred down off direct pigeons from Eijerkemp Lofts.

This was the best bird in the NIPA Sect B this week, another super performance from the loft of Sam and Norman Maginty. Their blue hen was bred late in 2020 and was trained lightly, the race from Gowran Park was just its second time out. She contains the very best bloodlines from their good friend John White who is a top racer in the local area. Very well done lads.

The third race of the season on Friday 7th May was from Gowran Park in Co. Kilkenny. The birds were liberated at 10am in a blue sky with no wind. Best two birds in the local area were clocked by Johnston Eagleson & Sons of Ballymena & District doing 1500ypm. Having been runners up in the Mid Antrim Combine in the opening two weeks of the season they went one better this week winning 1st & 2nd Combine with 1843 birds competing. Both birds were timed at 13.06pm for the 158 mile fly to the Cullybackey Road lofts. The winning bird a 2 year old blue chequer cock is full brother to the hen won Ballymena & Dist in the opening race of the season finishing 2nd Combine 1207 birds, another sister won Ballymena & Dist three weeks on the trot in 2017 and finished 1st, 3rd & 5th Mid Antrim Combine. NIPA SECTION C YOUNG BIRD FANCIERS OF THE YEAR – 2020
The 2020 season , will be remembered , for many reasons . The partnership of McMurray & Anderson – Darren McMurray in partners with his uncle Harry Anderson – will remember it for they added another title to their already impressive CV of awards – NIPA Section C Young Bird Fanciers Of The Year . The birds are managed by Darren , better known to all as Minto . Over the past few seasons prior to winning the 2020 title the partners were very successful in the channel events and have won numerous club awards with the main awards : 2014 : RPRA Overall Meritorious Award Winner ( Best Single Bird Performance Talbenny & Penzance ) – 2017 : 1st Sect C ( Only bird in race time ) 5th Open 1,535 birds ( Only 10 birds in race time ) NIPA St Malo Old Bird National – The 2020 young bird race team , flown on the roundabout system , were bred from the same bloodlines that won the above awards Camphuis/Soontjens and introduced to this family were the Van den bulck family mainly sourced from Herbie Thorpe .
