For the penultimate cross channel event prior to France the NIPA birds were in Bude Cornwall released on Saturday 19th June at 7.30am considering the sort of racing fanciers on the mainland were getting on the same day I suppose the NIPA event will be looked at as quite successful although many birds were still missing at clock checking. The overall winner was Harry McKeown who has raced for ages in Glenavy & District, and I have included a photo from an earlier presentation.

The winning pigeon is a Janssen/Willy Jacob crossed this is an absolute cracking channel pigeon having won 4 races on the channel so far there isn't many about like him. Well done Raymond on another good performance taking 1st and 2nd.

Big Bude result for McManus team in Ahoghill -

The third channel race of the season was from Bude in Cornwall. The birds were released on Saturday 19th June at 07.30am in little or no wind. The Ahoghill partnership of Young McManus & Sons again had an outstanding result winning 1st, 2nd & 3rd Mid Antrim Combine, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Section B and a brilliant 3rd, 4th & 5th Open NIPA 489/5798. Their 3 birds arrived together at 13.01pm having flown the 289 miles to the lofts to record velocity 1534. The first 2 birds clocked at the same time making them joint Combine and Section winners. One is a 2 year old pencil w/f cock sitting 7 days on eggs. This cock won Talbenny as a young bird and is bred from Vandenbrande birds acquired from Jager Bros from the Netherlands. Their second bird a 2 year old chequer hen feeding 3 day old chicks is bred from birds of Henik Simonsz again from the Netherlands. Third bird to time was a 3 year grizzle old hen showing to cocks. Sire is a grandson of Karel Laenens "Pitbull" and dam is a daughter of Danny Dixon's Champion Heartbreaker.

Earlier in the day Paddy and William won the Combine from the Skibbereen Yearling National finishing 2nd Section B and 8th Open NIPA. The loft is in top form this season having now won 5 x 1st Mid Antrim Combine's and 3 x 1st Section B. Next best in the Combine with 2 good birds was Mr & Mrs Robinson of Ahoghill on 1526 These birds finish 6th and 7th Open NIPA. Other club winners included A & C & T Tweed Rasharkin 1485, Sam Murphy in Kells on 1469, W & W Gilbert in Randalstown 1438 best Associate member Jimmy Rock on 1428 and last week’s Combine winners William & Joe Smyth winning Ballymena & Dist for the third channel race on the trot.
