Weather leads to change in race programm -

The East Down Combine were due to have the race of the 26th of June from Penzance but such was the forecast for that week end that it was decided to postpone that event until a later date when the forecast was more favourable and instead a race was organised from the Horse & Jockey (near Thurles) in Ireland with the Penzance race being shifted to the 2nd of July .The weather has caused all sorts of problems this week with the INFC King’s Cup also having to be put back but the EDC did manage to fly the Old Bird Derby from St Malo on Thursday but more of that next week .

The Horse & Jockey race attracted an entry of just over 1300 birds and these were released into a light Northerly wind at 8am which kept the velocities mainly in the 1100ypm although the top 7 birds did break the 1200 mark . It was the West section clubs of Newtownbreda , Ballylesson and Dundonald which had the top ten open placings and these were shared between the Newtownbreda partnership of B Hogg & sons who were 1st ,2nd and 12th Open and section ,the Ballylesson lofts of John Kirk and Sons 3rd open , John Patterson 4th and 7th Open , Colin & Dorothy Smyth & sons 5th open and the Dundonald lofts of Cowan & McCartney 6th open Mr & Mrs Brown with 3 together for 8th ,9th & 10th and Mark Foulis 11th open . Then it was the turn of the East Section or rather one loft in particular that of the Annalong partnership of K Rooney ,son & dtr who took the next 9 places in the Open and first 13 in the East section . Those who follow the Combine results each week will see that these are all lofts which have been to the fore all season putting up some magnificent performances .
