EAST SECTION SUCCESSES FROM HORSE& JOCKEY & MULLINGAR

The Latest races in the East Down Combine’s revised Young Bird Programme were from The Horse & Jockey flown on Monday August 16th and this was followed by Mullingar on August 22nd and as can be seen the entries are beginning to tail off as the season draws to a close with the final race for the East Down Combine being from Skibbereen scheduled for September 11th . Further proof if proof be needed that the end of the season is just around the corner was word from Fintan Moran of the Malahide & District club of a forthcoming fund raising “ phone in” auction to be held between 1st and 12th of September and full details can be obtained from Fintan on tel 00353-868150589 .

As I write this column the weather has picked up and has enabled birds to be trained so perhaps the season will wind down with some first rate racing conditions .
Right a look at the Horse & Jockey and Mullingar results and The race from the Horse & Jockey saw the birds liberated on Monday 16th August at 10am into a NW wind which led to steady velocities with the top 11 birds making over the 1100ypm and again the first arrivals were to East Section lofts with the Cloughey partnership of C & H Cully with the winner on 1146 ypm . Next two were two the Annalong partnership of John Trimble and his grandson Zac with the Portavogie lofts of Robert & Glenn Thompson in at 5th open and these top five birds took the top 5 places in the East section . Best in the West Section were B Hogg& sons of Newtownbreda .2nd West section were Crossgar’s McCartan & Woodsides with the Dundonald team of Myles , Kincaid , McCann & Auld 3rd section . Sunday August 22nd saw the Combine back to Mullingar with birds released at 11.30am into a light West wind which was turning more northerly en route and resulted in a faster race than the Horse & Jockey at the start of the week and again it was the East section taking the top places in the Open ,in fact they had 39 if the top 40 places with velocities in the 1400’s . 1st and 2nd Open was the Annalong loft of Kevin Rooney ,son & dtr with two together on 1446 closely followed by Cloughey’s Gordon Bros & Sons and then it was members of these two clubs which took the 39 open places between them as the results show . Crossgar in the West section had the top three places here with McCartan & Woodsides having the first two and Alex & Anne Cheevers being 3rd Section . Full result was :
