Cloughey Dominates From Tullamore 2
3rd September 2021

The East Down Combine returned to Tullamore on the 28th August for the 7th Young Bird race of the season and it was once again the East Coast Cloughey club which dominated the Open result with 36 of the top 40 places with the lofts of Harper & Young having 15 of these including 1st & 3rd open and Gordon Bros & Sons having 21places .

2nd Open was to the Rooney partnership of Annalong who had a total of 3 birds in the open result with the only other loft featuring in the Open was that of Tony Smith of Killyleagh Central HPS . In the West section the top two were to the Crossgar partnership of McCartan & Woodsides with Belmont’s R & J Conlane 3rd section .
The birds were released at 11am into a light East wind with the leading birds making velocities of 1500ypm plus . The full result was :

Single Bird Nomination receives special prize for Skibbereen Derby

The 2 bird club first introduced a single bird Nomination for YB’s in 2020 for lofts to nominate the same bird throughout the season and this has received a special prize of £100 very generously presented to the club by the partnership of B Hogg & sons for the first two of these nominated birds in the Skibbereen Derby to be split £60 ,& £40. With the difficult young bird season which has been experienced this should give make the final of this event even more interesting .

This week Combine have two races , inland they are back at the Horse & Jockey and also the YB Derby from Talbenny will be flown with the final Combine race, the Skibbereen YB Derby, bringing the 2021 season to a close scheduled for September 11th .
