Eamonn Quigley - Derry City record

Post by willie reynolds »

Eamon Quigley: Amelia Earhart

Over a period of 14 days Eamonn Quigley achieved what can only be described as an outstanding performance in extreme distance pigeon racing.

To time on the day of liberation in all three races from France into Inch Island Donegal in the North West of Ireland was a dream come true for Eamonn, especially as each of these races was over 500 mile flights for his birds.

The first race was 507 miles from St Malo and his chequered cock was 1st Club and 3rd Section H. The second race, just a week later, was the Kings Cup from St Allouestre, 534 miles to his loft and he timed his two year old chequered hen having flown for 15 hours 34 minutes. Eamonn also timed another bird on the second day from the Kings Cup. The third race was the Friendship National from Quimper a distance of 507 miles and he timed his blue pied hen on the day.

All three birds were the furthest flying birds, I believe, timed on the day following liberation in France.

All these birds are related, being children and grandchildren of Eamonn's No. 1 hen - a gifted young bird from T&P Cassidy's two times France hen "Madam Butterfly", bred in 2006. This bird, from Kenyon and Logan lines, has been responsible for multiple French winners for Eamon.
Super flying Eamonn, that record might never be beat.
