Due to advancing years Ballymena & District fanciers Billy and Joe Smyth are to retire from racing. They had another excellent racing season, probably one of the best, with the highlight being 1st Open NIPA Penzance and 1st Open NIPA Penzance Classic on the 1st July last year. The winning 2-year-old blue cock "Ken-Aird Lad" was flying 329 miles to their Carniny Road lofts in the town, and also winning the RPRA Meritorious award in Section B, for the best performance from Talbenny (2) and Penzance with the same bird. This is an award which the guys have won on five separate occasions, fantastic racing! The entire stock, very small in number will be sold just contact Billy on his land line Tel: o28 2564 3004, the Penzance winner and a selected mate will be sold as a pair on Elimar Pigeons. It’s the end of an era and they leave the Ballymena & Dist HPS after a lifetime as members, Billy was club Treasurer in the early days when the membership exceeded 60, its about a quarter of the size now. Until it folded several years ago W & J Smyth were dual members in the Ballymena Championship.
