2022 RACING OFF TO A GOOD START

Saturday April 9th saw the East Down Combine commence the 2022 racing season and it seems no time since the close of the 2021 season .A lot has happened since then with outbreaks of Bird Flu , easing of Covid 19 restrictions and sadly the passing of yet more fanciers . It has also seen a number of additional fanciers join the ranks of the EDC Membership and the Combine has also seen some administrative staff changes and we wish them well in their new roles especially new secretary Eamon Leneghan and I would refer readers to the East Down Website to keep up to date with the latest news .
Saturday April 9th saw the birds at Navan for the opening race and despite a mixed bag of weather on the days immediately prior to Saturday the day itself provided a perfect start bright, sunny and with a light West wind which enabled the birds to be up and away at 10am and everyone enjoyed a good race .
The early birds in the Open were to the members of the Annalong club with John Trimble and his grandson Zac winning the open 1642 with a nominated bird with their next bird at 8th open .The six open places between Johnand Zac’s two birds were filled by clubmates Kevin Rooney ,son and Dtr with both lofts taking other open placings . Cloughey’s Gordon Bros & Sons were the next loft to these Annalong lofts all of which were in the East Section .
The West section saw Crossgar’s McCartan &Woodsides with the first two with Dundonald through Stephen Brown 3rd section and Ballynahinch’s Abernethy & Turner in at 4th with the next places back in Dundonald through Mark Foulis & Stephen Brown .
