Obituary Gerry Daly (Dublin) -

At Beaumont hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning 10th of August,we lost a great Dublin legend in pigeon racing Gerry Daly at the age of 66.Gerry was a member of my own club Donnycarney Racing Pigeon Club and was president of the Irish South Road Fedeation - which consists of 34 Dublin based clubs.As we go through life we meet many people,but only a very few make a lasting impression - Gerry was one such person.It was a great honour to have worked alongside him,down the years on the Dublin pigeon show committee. This charitable organization raised thousands of euro for people in need through the great generosity of Irish and British pigeon fanciers.He was part of the driving force behind the introduction of the " ETS" system of timing racing pigeon ( computerizaton) There were many obstacles along the way,but Gerry was persistent - like a dog with a bone.He had an answer for everything and i recall one such incidence that happened on a Sunday morning in the " pigeon corner" of the Goblet Bar where the post-mortem of the previous days race would be held.Gerry claimed that you should never leave a drinker in the loft over night,because mice might swim in it. A doubting Thomas wondered out loud - how the " F " could you tell if a bloody mouse was swiming in your drinker.Gerry replied - you'd see his little wet towel hanging over the edge in the morning. We have lost a great organizer and ambassador for our beloved sport here in Ireland.He'll be up there tonight with his fellow Dublin legend's Luke,Ronnie and Barney of the Dubliners singing - Dublin in the rare oul time.On behalf of Donnycarney Racing Pigeon Club and the Irish South Road Federation.Our deepest condolence to his lovely wife Marion and family.
