VErY pleased to confirm that the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has approved and published a UK self-declaration of the recovery of freedom from infection with high pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAI) for the zone of Northern Ireland (NI). The declaration can be viewed on the WOAH website here.
I am sure you will agree that this is a very welcome development and is the result of your continuing support in responding collaboratively to HPAI incursions in NI. As this is the first occasion that NI has been recognised as a zone of the UK free from HPAI we will work closely with Defra Market Access colleagues in the coming days to understand the immediate impact on export certification. Should you have any export queries please contact DAERATradeExports@daera-ni.gov.uk in the first instance.
We are working closely with colleagues from across the devolved administrations and the Republic of Ireland to review the current risk of a HPAI incursion. Officials will meet internally early next week to discuss next steps and will be engaging with industry in due course on the way forward.
I would like to thank you for your continued support over the last few months and again would stress the need to adhere to stringent biosecurity measures to mitigate the risk of HPAI incursion into our poultry flocks.
Kind regards. Info from Jim Ramsey.
Bird Flu update for NI -
The NIPA was founded in 1945 and it's membership was open to all members within Northern Ireland - We are one of the largest weekly convoying organisations in the UK. Presently we have approx. 100 clubs as members, with over 2,000 members. Birds competing each week can reach 25 to 30 thousand, depending on the race. The race programme starts in Ireland down to Rosscarbery and continues through Wales & England to Penzance, and the Premier OB Nat flown from St Malo (France).
